3B Rich is a family act out of Las Vegas who are rapidly emerging as this generation’s Boyz 2 Men. They haven’t broken through to the mainstream yet, but with their new single, “Slow Twerkin,” they deserve their share of the spotlight. Natural born entertainers, the brothers are second generation performers. They’ve honed their act in a city known for its live shows, giving them an edge in terms of the standards they are required to meet. In fact, they moonlight as the Jackson 5 in a local production.

“Slow Twerkin” is a favorite of the group from their new album. You could say it’s a snapshot of the life of a young woman, trying to survive and thrive in the soiree of sin. Truth be told, this is a story that could be lived in any corner of the world. That’s right, “Slow Twerking” is not a sensual song, with a soulful R&B backdrop. “Slow Twerkin” is a detached portrayal of a stripper with a soulful R&B backdrop.
The track unfolds rather patiently, and never really picks up any speed. It’s the story that’s the focus and we emerge with a mixed perception of the subject. 3B Rich doesn’t exactly try to frame the woman in the song as a sympathetic character. Instead, she comes across as opportunistic and predatory. Conversely, they describe a figure who is simply doing what she has to, in order to get by.
She’s in the club/getting paid/working her way through school. It’s not a groundbreaking concept that 3B Rich has here, but it’s the ambivalence with which they present it. The sort of ambivalence that becomes a survival tactic to make it in the cutthroat jungle of Las Vegas. It’s a gray area that has a slightly different set of rules, and scheming becomes not just a way of life, but of supporting yourself and your family. It’s something that needs to change but has to be put under a microscope before it can.
The vocal harmonies of 3B Rich are the hallmark of their identity. There’s a few famous trios of brothers in the Music business, most notably the Bee Gees and Jonas Brothers, but few in this genre. The vocal arrangements on “Slow Twerkin,” are simply outlined. It’s still a strong impression of what the boys can do, and the melody is rock solid. Once again, 3B Rich has the benefit of having gone to one of the best graduate schools for entertainment, by living in Las Vegas.
“Slow Twerkin” is going to be a notable release. It’s a slow jam, but you are made aware of that upfront. Storytelling is a floundering art form in music, and this is a prime of example of how a character driven piece can be so effective. This is going to be the introductory track to 3B Rich for many, and it is all but assured to make a lasting impression. “Slow Twerkin” is available across all digital platforms.
