Exclusive Interview with Katie Pederson

master mentalism tricks

Hello Katie! So lovely to speak with you today!

Thanks for having me!

What have you been working on lately?

I have been working on a new full length record that will be out later this month! The project is called, “Limitless,” and it will be out on April 22, 2022 on Earth Day! It’s a 10 song record chronicling my journey from leaving Michigan before my move to Nashville. I’ve been working on it for the past 3+ years, so I’m quite excited to let it fly out into the world. I’ve also been enjoying co-writing with a lot of good friends and artists that I really admire, which has been really great.

What is a dream venue for you to perform in?

I would say the Ryman! I saw Joe Purdy play there recently and he wrote a song that same day about playing there and premiered it on the stage. It was one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever seen. Playing there would be an absolute dream.

What has been keeping you inspired to create recently?

I’m currently in the process of learning guitar, and it’s been so much fun to write on a different instrument (my primary instrument is piano). It helps the songs to take a different shape and also helps me think of different/new melodies that I wouldn’t necessarily think of when playing piano. It’s been a lot of fun to switch things up!

What has been the biggest game changer in your career this far?

I would say moving to Nashville. I moved here two years ago, and the scene here has changed my perspective in so many ways as both a songwriter and an artist. I’ve met so many wonderful people, even just recently, who have really inspired me and pushed me to create in ways I haven’t before. Moving here helped me dream a little bigger, pushed me out of my comfort zone, and has really inspired me to keep going in a multitude of ways.

Who would you say is your biggest cheerleader in your career?

Oh man, it’s hard to say but I have a great circle of friends who have been cheering me on since day one and their support has meant the world to me. Having so many supportive people in my corner has been such a gift.

How important do you think it is for artists to know and understand music history?

I think it’s as important for artists to know about music history as it is for humans to know about history in general. The art we’re creating stems from generations and generations of artists who came before us. There are so many ways that we’re influenced as musicians and songwriters, and I don’t think it’s even possible for us to be aware of them all. For example, there are times where I wake up with songs in my head and I don’t know how I know them – they’ve just been around, playing in the grocery store or on the radio. Without learning more about the history of the music or art that we’re creating, I think we do a disservice to ourselves and our art. Learning about music history helps us stay connected to the people who made it possible for us to keep creating now.

Any upcoming projects you want us to know about?

My full length record Limitless will be out April 22, 2022! I’ll be playing a few release shows, one in Nashville on April 21 at the 5 Spot and one in my hometown of Ann Arbor, MI at the Ark on April 24. I’m super excited to be able to premiere the album with a full band in both of my home cities!

Please let everyone know where they can keep up with you and your music!

My music can be found on all streaming platforms, and you can keep up with me on socials at @katiepedersonmusic on pretty much everything! 🙂

Thank you for your time!
