For designer Emily Daccarett fashion and music can not be separated. Daccarett creates an immersive world of storytelling through music, film, and fashion. Each artistic direction begins with a beat that forms a story. From the start of her brand, she has fused those worlds together, creating a symbiotic flow between the two.
What were all the events that had to happen that finally led to your new music?
The past couple of years have been a mix of the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, having lost two of my grandparents a year apart from each other. It has shown me the strength I have, because in those first moments you just want to crawl in a hole and forget everything. I retreated into my music and used my journal as a means to both escape and confront my feelings. I knew I had to keep moving forward and most importantly look for my happiness again.
Talk to us about the narrative of this music and why it’s so important?
My album, Yours Always, goes through that journey of emotions, while finding an escape and when necessary, coming back to reality. Throughout the album, you get a sense of embracing the pain and understanding that it’s something we can’t simply wish away, but in fact can learn to live with it.
What is the importance of storytelling with your music?
I speak through imagery, I’m very private and speaking through story form I find very therapeutic. You can suddenly turn something into art, and it releases you from it.
How do you make sure your beginning, middle and end feel like it flows into each other with purpose?
I think about it in terms of working on a short film. Visualizing the story from beginning to end helps me create a flow or sense of direction.
What is the theme of your new music?
The themes are of love, hope, memory, and loss.
What is your special signature that you leave on your music?
I think my signature is I try to give my music a cinematic feel. I love how soundtracks transport us back to our favorite movies and that’s what I try to do with my music, for the listener to get lost into the story and let their imagination soar.
Leave us with a significant lyric from your latest music!
‘ Time meant nothing here, until we had to say goodbye
It took too long to see, but when I looked for you were gone,
In the shadow of the wind, you were gone ’
