Bob Green – Silver Screams for Silent Screens Review

master mentalism tricks

Releasing his fourth album Silver Screams for Silent Screens with Spectra Music Group (2023), Bob Green encapsulates emotion, imagery, and heavy lyrics all within 7 tracks. Based in Orlando Florida, his compelling voice greatly contrasts from his laidback and humble personality. Many of his YouTube shorts feature him playing guitar or ukulele covering artists such as Nirvana and Foo Fighters which display the influences in his lyrical voice style.

This is a complex experience of an album, with every song opening a door of discovery into your emotions. The first track “Next Full Moon” does with an acoustic guitar into, then incoming vocals, followed by the combined drums, electric guitar, and some harmony all within the first 30 seconds of the song. Green really flexes his vocals in the second verse through some powerful high notes that really make you feel the lyrics which express the conflict between holding onto a relationship while struggling with insecurities.

It’s Green’s voice that makes this album effective, he really sings his heart out with his high carrying range and that touch of vibrato. It’s just attractive to the ear and those natural inflections add more meaning to his songs overall, really showing that he feels what he sings. Continuing with the song “Whiskey, Weed, and Wine” is a song about overcoming obstacles and nice change of pace a complete a vibe, it will have you have you head nodding literally with lines with some heavy lyrics like “Pour a glass as red as my blood” and “thoughts and fears I can’t leave behind”. Around the 4 min mark is when the song accelerates, just like a whisky shot hits giving you that buzz you need.

“Pirates Life” and “Drain You” finish up the album and there‘s something special about both of these songs. In “Pirate’s Life” you really feel as if you’re sailing on the water “showing fear and earning rewards” faced in life. With long fermatas of “Yo Ho” and dramatic harmonies, ending with the sounds of ocean waves, this is one of the best songs in the album. “Drain You” is an acoustic version of Nirvana’s original song, no surprise there as his cover of the band is quite popular gaining him many online views. Green’s version is a bit more toned down, focusing on the vocals and drawing more attention to the lyrics. At 1:35 you get that same tension build but not the grunge and distortedness as Nirvana, making for a different interpretation.

Bob Green has put together a solid album, a mixture of different emotions and that everyone goes through. Also listen to his previous albums, Back to Neverland – Bob Green and The Whiskey Conspiracy (2021), Pop vs Soul (2016), and Diamonds and Dead Roses (2009). Find him on Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube, IHeart Radio, and Spotify.
