Godzilla x Kong: Supernova has made a surprising addition to the upcoming project, teasing potential NSFW scenes. This will be the first time MonsterVerse fans will experience intimacy in the franchise movie.
According to an IMDb update, the MonsterVerse project has employed an intimacy coordinator. Kristina Sexton has been roped in to supervise potential intimate and NSFW scenes. Sexton is renowned for working as an intimacy coordinator on features such as Audrey (2024), The Edge (2025), Dangerous Animals (2025), The Get Out (2026), and more. Some of her upcoming works, besides Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, include The Mosquito Bowl, Black Snow, Zombie Plane, Wizards!, Sacrifice, Fortitude Valley, etc., per IMDb.
The update about Sexton was also confirmed by @MVFilmNews on X. The post read, “Kristina Sexton will serve as the intimacy coordinator for ‘Godzilla × Kong: Supernova’. The previous Monsterverse films did not utilize an intimacy coordinator.” Godzilla × Kong: Supernova is currently in post-production and is scheduled for release on March 26, 2027.
How the previous MonsterVerse movies performed at the box office
Godzilla was the first MonsterVerse movie that hit the screens back in 2014. With a 76% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, it earned a worldwide box office gross of $529,076,069, according to The Numbers. On its opening weekend itself, the action-adventure earned $93,188,384, which is 46.4% of its total gross.
Following Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island (2017) earned $570,852,812 at the worldwide box office, according to The Numbers. The Jordan Vogt-Roberts-directed movie had a production budget of $185,000,000.
The 2019 MonsterVerse movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters turned out to be a box office disappointment. The Warner Bros.-distributed film grossed $387,300,138 worldwide against a production budget of $170,000,000. On Rotten Tomatoes, it got a 42% rating from critics. However, audiences gave it an 83% rating on Popcornmeter.
Later, in 2021, Godzilla vs.Kong was released in theaters. It grossed $470,116,094, according to The Numbers. Following that, the latest movie from the MonsterVerse franchise, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, was released on March 29, 2024. It became a box-office hit, grossing $572,505,338 against a budget of $135,000,000.
