The posts have once again sparked renewed discussion among his fans about the film’s legacy.
Zack Snyder shares last day of filming Man of Steel with Henry Cavill as Superman
Zack Snyder recently took to Instagram to share two photos from the 2013 DCEU film, Man of Steel.
The Justice League director posted a behind-the-scenes image from the last day of shooting the Superman film. The image shows Snyder, Henry Cavill, and the assistant directors, all holding glasses of champagne to celebrate the completion of the shoot. Snyder captioned it, “With Henry Cavill and my AD team on the last day of shooting Man of Steel — Bruce Moriarty (@equus52) and Misha Bukowski.”
Earlier that day, The Watchmen director also shared concept art for Man of Steel. It showcases Superman with his back turned towards the camera, set against a dark background, with just a spotlight on him. The image was also accompanied by a caption that read, “On my planet, it means hope. And it will always mean hope.”
Snyder’s Man of Steel will be 13 years old on June 14. Co-produced by Christopher Nolan, the film was the first chapter in the now-concluded DCEU.
Interestingly, Snyder was not the only choice for helming the Superman reboot. Reportedly, the studio had also considered several filmmakers, including Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman, and Duncan Jones. At one point, the producers also approached Guillermo Del Toro to direct it, though he turned it down. Ultimately, the job landed with Snyder in 2010.
Upon release, Man of Steel couldn’t secure a respectable score from the critics, while the audience was largely receptive. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a critics’ score of 56% and a user score of 75%. On IMDb, it has a score of 7.1/10 from over 860K users. At the box office, the film ended its theatrical run with a global haul of more than $670.1 million against a $225 million budget.
