“What a singer and what a brave brave woman,” Tracey Thorn of Everything But the Girl wrote on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter), adding that O’Connor’s death is “a terrible loss.”
Kimya Dawson also remembered O’Connor: “Brave people inspire other people to be brave. Strong people inspire other people to be strong. Sinéad was one of the bravest and the strongest..”
U2 posted lyrics from “Heroine”—O’Connor’s song with the Edge—adding, “Rest In Peace Sinéad.”
New Jersey punk band Titus Andronicus also shared a tribute, calling O’Connor “undoubtedly one of the most courageous ever to hold the mic,” while the Charlatans’ Tim Burgess remembered her as “the true embodiment of a punk spirit.”
Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea noted: “for all us street kids, for all us wildlings, when sinead got huge, it felt like one of us made it. It was incredible. im not trying to compare myself or anyone else to sinead, she is one of a kind, but thats what it felt like to me. like she was one of us. she was like billie holiday to me. All her pain, all her beauty, those incredible songs. she deserves sainthood.”
Though her wide-ranging influence was never a question, the variety of artists honor to O’Connor is a testament to her indelible mark on popular music. Public Enemy’s Chuck D posted a brief homage, writing: “Rest In Beats and PowEr Sinead O Connor who always Brought The Noise,” while Ice-T wrote on X: “Respect to Sinead….. She stood for something… Unlike most people…. Rest Easy…”
Irish UFC fighter Conor McGregor also lamented her death. “The world has lost an artist with the voice of an Angel,” he wrote. “Ireland has lost an iconic voice and one of our absolute finest, by a long shot. And I have lost a friend. Sinead’s music will live on and continue to inspire! Rest In Peace, Sinead you are home with your son I am sure ️.” In 2015, O’Connor sang the Irish traditional ballad “The Foggy Dew” as McGregor walked out to fight in UFC 189 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
