Originally an acoustic piece set, Pony in the Pancake (PIP) has since become a surf/psychedelic band well worth your time. They are releasing their latest single “We’ll go walking” which is off their latest album In Dreams. Right when I hit play, the dreamy sounds of the track surround me for an immersive listening experience. According to the band, they play True Wave and that’s definitely their sound in a nutshell.
As synths and atmospheric guitars settle in, it is the combined vocal harmonies from the band that definitely arrests. Filled with ambient vibes and a very mellow undertaking, I was taking back to the ‘60s and ‘70s where bands like The Beatles and The Beach Boys carried this sort of sound forward.
PIP’s surf and psychedelic sound pays odes to bands of the past, but it looks like they don’t just do that. They also bring a sound that is distinctly their own to the table, which I loved. The band is able to include an added dimension to the aforementioned genres as well as carrying the torch for like-minded bands.
The band brings a great sound for summer here, filled with nostalgia and sentimentalism. I thought this was a good start and I definitely look forward to seeing more music from them!
