A domestic assault case brought against Michelle Branch earlier this month has been dropped, according to online records viewed by Pitchfork. Branch was arrested and booked for domestic assault on August 11. The singer had accused her husband—the Black Keys’ Patrick Carney—of cheating in a since-deleted tweet. It was later reported that Branch had slapped Carney in the face “one to two times,” a detail she relayed to police at the time. Carney also reportedly told police that Branch had slapped him, but he did not have visible injuries. Branch was released on $1,000 bond the same day as her arrest.
According to Consequence, the case has been dropped “at the request of the state.” Branch filed for divorce from Carney on August 15. In a statement shared with People and TMZ, the singer wrote: “To say that I am totally devastated doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family. The rug has been completely pulled from underneath me and now I must figure out how to move forward. With such small children, I ask for privacy and kindness.”
Branch and Carney married in 2019. They have two young children together.
