    Exclusive Interview with Rae Radick

    By Heather SavageOctober 14, 2022

Rae Radick often describes herself as, “The Love Child of Shania Twain + Miranda Lambert + a dash of New York City.” She recently opened for Miranda Lambert and Brett Young at Citadel Country Spirit Music Festival in 2021, and Broadway’s Palladium Theater in Times Square. She’s a prime example of the new wave of feminism: fierce yet vulnerable, classy yet authentic, free thinking, and finding your path in a technology based world. Rae Radick has been a singer/songwriter since she was sixteen. Hailing from Bucks County, Pennsylvania she’s lived in New York City for the past eight years and tours internationally. She’s been featured on Front Range Radio, Q-Star Radio, and numerous blog articles as “Artist of the Week.” She’s performed at the Hilton Hotel in Atlantic City, Fox and Friends, Shea Stadium, Intrepid Museum, Queen Mary in San Diego, Brooklyn Bowl, The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, Red Lion, and Pete’s Candy store to name a few. She also creates original music for feature films. Mixing her Pennsylvania roots with New York City’s spirit, her sound is a supreme balance of pop and country.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

The music I typically create is a blend of country and pop. I often describe myself as the “Love Child of Shania Twain and Miranda Lambert” because Shania broke barriers with her crossover into the Country and Pop charts, while Miranda Lambert represents female empowerment. On my last EP I wanted to create an album that everyone could enjoy- so some songs are more country sounding than others, while other songs are more pop/rock and less country. The through line with all of my songs are a catchy chorus and truthful lyrics that tell a story.

Tell us about your upcoming music?

My upcoming singles are more in the country/pop realm. I’m exploring more of a country twang and infusing more country elements such as steel pedal and country riffs. They’re catchy and fun, but with 70’s roots. I’m very excited to share my upcoming single, “Don’t Ya Know It” with everyone.

What was your thought when you first started to compose the single?

When I first wrote, “Don’t ya Know It” I knew exactly where I wanted to go with it. I wanted a warm, couples, love song. When I wrote the melody I noticed it had an R&B chord progression and 70s vibe— so I just went with it. I think people are going to like it because it’s a cute love song, and who doesn’t like that?

What inspired you to create the single?

I’m not sure what inspired my new single specifically. Sometimes I just get melodies in my head and if it’s good enough then I write it down. The chorus melody and lyrics came to me at the same time during a random moment, and when it came time to pick a single to release I thought this was perfect for a fall/winter release. If I had to reference anything I would say, “Beast of Burden” by The Rolling Stones. That’s one of my favorite songs and it may have influenced the R&B flavor.

In terms of the overall composition, what is your favorite part of the single?

That’s a tough question. I like everything about my lyrics and the melody so I can’t pick a specific part. Each line and image I create hits a warm spot in my heart, and the melody makes me move my hips in a happy way.

Tell us about your process. How do you find inspiration when working to a deadline?

I try to approach songwriting in the most organic way possible, because good art can’t be forced. It’s tricky when dealing with a deadline, but luckily this song didn’t have one so we could take our time. Melodies and lyrics come randomly to me throughout my day, so I try to record them in the moment before they leave my brain. I have a whole folder in my Notes app dedicated to song lyrics and concepts. Later on, when I want to release a song I refer back and pick the strongest ones.

How have you been able to use social media for this release?

Social media is helpful because you can create hype and reach wide audiences. So I’ll be using my platforms: Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok for teasers and trailers for the release!
