Even the singer’s name exudes coolness and the pizzaz that music calls for – “Flame Of Truth” from Chalice Collective features lead singer Sedona Swan Soulfire, with Ayla Réalta and Chakaara Bliss also lending their voices and DJ Kallum. Based in Portland, Oregon, Chalice Collective seems to operate on a whole new level of music consciousness. Bound together with thrilling beats and starry-rhythms, “Flame Of Truth” is particularly adept at keeping the listener both entertained and tethered to sonic exploration. “Flame Of Truth” has elements of EDM, pop and New Age musical bedrocks.
There are several moments in “Flame Of Truth” that feel like lightning in a bottle. From the opening sequences that immediately get the heart rate pumping, to the bridge that has smooth transitions and finally a bit of techno bubbling, “Flame Of Truth” never wavers in its pathway to success. The lyrics, too, are inspiring prose. We spread our wings, sings Soulfire. Her angelic voice leaves a wake trail the same as a cruise line.
She definitely makes an imprint on the listener with the beauty in her voice and a cadence that fits perfectly with the soundwaves. This line to me, the idea of wings, is indicative of the rise of the Phoenix (which is mentioned in the song). We all try and reinvent ourself and seek out friends or even policies of truth that we want to adopt. This song to me really keeps you on a path that asks the listener to trust themselves and to spread their wings with honesty and optimism. If you listen closely, you can almost hear the hush in her voice, as Soulfire gathers the breath for the next line, you can breathe-in-and-breathe out alongside. Much like a great yoga practice, “Flame Of Truth” sparks calmness and a rousing intensity.
I liked the backing vocals, too. Ayla Réalta and Chakaara Bliss might not be in the spotlight as much as Soulfire, but their contributions are riveting. The same can be said about DJ Kallum. The flow is magnetic and pulverizing all the same. You feel as though you want to sprint to the finish line, only to bask in the sunrays. “Flame of Truth” makes you feel unstoppable and replenished. I think more than any other song in recent memory, this song reminded me to live in the moment. To be in the moment and connect oneself to what is happening in the here and now. It’s easy to be nostalgic and even ponder the future but “Flame Of Truth” pulled at my senses to stay present.
“Flame Of Truth” is also a wake-up call for indie artists. Chalice Collective bring their ‘A’ game and continue to push the artistic status-quo. This song has many twists and turns and revolving sounds. You don’t have to just stay in one lane anymore and “Flame Of Truth” really expands the genre-horizon. I liked how it offered so many tantalizing sonic pathways. I didn’t feel ‘stuck’ in just electronica. And even if I did, it really worked out very well. Chalice Collective prioritize their listeners and that is really appreciated.
