Inde Navarrette is revealing the secret behind her Rogue performance. The actress opened up about what’s influencing her take on the character in the upcoming X-Men reboot. Since her announcement last month, fans have been buzzing about how the Obsession actress plans to tackle the mutant. Now Navarrette is finally answering those questions.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, she was asked if there were “any famous Southern accents” that she has been drawing on for her iteration of Rogue. To this, Navarrette answered, “I’ve never told this publicly, I completely forgot, but I have a divorced family. I grew up in Texas for a good majority of my life. So, honestly, those Southern women are really my favorite.”
She continued explaining that Corpus Christi in Texas is the city, “specifically,” where she grew up, adding, “So, I just remember, you know, the old Southern women that I really, really love.” In essence, Navarrette’s Southern roots and personal connection to the region will be shaping her take on Marvel’s Rogue.
Inde Navarrette is embracing the challenge of playing Rogue
When she was originally announced to be the next Rogue in the MCU, Navarrette sparked mixed reactions and intense online debate across social media platforms.
Addressing early fan skepticism regarding her voice, however, the actress made clear she was embracing the challenge of playing Rogue by capturing the character’s distinct Mississippi drawl. For this, she even plans to personally visit the state to study the local dialect and pay homage to traditional Southern women.
As she shared with Entertainment Tonight, “But specifically, Mississippi – Rogue is from Mississippi. So, I’m really just, I wanna go there. I wanna really do her justice.”
Her dual-persona performance in Obsession further proves that Navarrette can handle Rogue’s signature combination of outward flirtatious confidence and inner isolation.
Navarrette is set to star alongside an ensemble cast that includes Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, and Adam Driver in this forthcoming Marvel reboot flick. X-Men reboot is set to hit the theatres on May 5, 2028.
