Why Fans Think Herrmann is Leaving Chicago Fire

Chicago Fire fans are wondering if Herrmann, played by David Eigenberg, is leaving the show. Introduced in Season 1, he started as a senior firefighter in Engine 51 and later advanced to a Lieutenant position. However, the recent plot shows him taking the next step in his career, which might lead to his exit from Firehouse 51.

Here’s what happened to Herrmann in Season 13 Episode 8.

Is David Eigenberg’s Herrmann leaving Chicago Fire?

There are no confirmed reports that indicate Eisenberg’s Herrmann’s departure from Chicago Fire.

The episode, titled “Quicksand,” features Herrmann making a significant decision for the future of his firefighting career, which might impact his character’s place in the show. He decides to take the chief exam along with his best friend Mouch and begins its preparation.

While fans are happy to see him advance, what concerns them is that he might be removed from the action completely. This has made them wonder if an exit is planned for the character already. Nevertheless, neither Eisenberg nor Makers has disclosed any plans for his departure as of now.

In an interview with TVLine, Eisenberg reflected on how moving up to the Chief position might mean leaving behind the fire duties but it also brings up more serious responsibilities for the character.

He said, “When you take on an officer’s advancement, you step further away from the actual fire, but you also take on the responsibility of the lives. That’s a hard thing to do to worry about being responsible for people and also stepping away from the old life. And I think Hermann is ready for it, and we’ll see how that unfolds in the step towards chief.”

It’s not the first time Eisenberg’s departure speculations have stirred up during the current season. Previously, when he was absent from Episodes 6 and 7, many assumed he was leaving the series. However, it was later learned that he suffered an injury in his Achilles tendon, leading to his absence (via CinemaBlend).
