Jon Stewart recently used the Marvel Cinematic Universe to make a point about Donald Trump‘s political influence. He compared the president’s role within MAGA to Iron Man‘s importance to Marvel. During a recent Daily Show event, Stewart questioned whether the movement could maintain the same level of support under a different leader.
Jon Stewart uses Marvel analogy for Donald Trump and political comebacks
Jon Stewart compared Donald Trump’s position within the MAGA movement to Iron Man’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking at a Daily Show For Your Consideration event in New York, Stewart argued that Trump’s influence is so closely related to the movement that replacing him may prove difficult.
Using Marvel as a point of comparison, Stewart questioned whether Trump’s supporters would remain as invested if someone else attempted to take over the movement after him. “By attaching [MAGA] to the MCU, that feels like it’s going to be non-transferable,” Stewart said. As per Variety, he added, ”Once they lose Iron Man, they can try and throw him back in there as Dr. Doom or some other f***ing thing.”
Stewart asked Jordan Klepper, “But do you think that audience is going to buy somebody else running that universe?” Klepper, who regularly speaks with Trump supporters while covering political rallies, said that he did not think so.
During the same conversation, Stewart also dismissed the idea that prominent Republicans such as Marco Rubio and JD Vance will inherit Trump’s political influence. He explained, “Actually, no, it’s either going to be somebody with the Trump name, and it’s a family heirloom that’s passed down, or whoever is the next leader of the Republican party will be inheriting an entirely different machine.”
Stewart and Klepper were joined at the event by Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta, and Josh Johnson as part of Comedy Central’s Emmy campaign for The Daily Show.
