As production begins on the long-awaited sequel, the first batch of Beetlejuice 2 set photos has finally surfaced online. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on September 6, 2024, which pits it directly against Marvel Studios‘ hotly anticipated Blade reboot.

In behind-the-scenes photos, fans get their first look at Winona Ryder’s return as Lydia Deetz. Ryder returns after over three decades since the original Tim Burton movie. The actress is set to star opposite Wednesday‘s Jenna Ortega, who’ll play Lydia’s teenage daughter.

What to Expect in Beetlejuice 2?

Beetlejuice 2 is once again being directed by Tim Burton. This marks Burton’s feature directorial comeback, four years after helming Disney’s live-action Dumbo. After initially working together in Netflix’s Wednesday series, Scream VI star Jenna Ortega reunites with Burton.

Joining Ortega are returning stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara. The sequel will also introduced new characters in the form of Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe. The project has been in development for more than three decades now, with initial plans to set the sequel in Hawaii. Further details about the new plot still under wraps.

Beetlejuice starred Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones, Alec Baldwin, and Geena Davis. The film centered around a deceased married couple who called on the services of the obnoxious and mischievous poltergeist from the Netherworld to scare away the new residents of their former home. Since its debut, it earned both critical and commercial success with a box office gross of over $73 million. Due to its success and pop culture influence, it went on to spawn an animated series, video games, and a stage musical.
