Interview with Gurpreet Kaur Sidhu, Author of Shadow

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Shadow: Run, but you can’t hide?

Shadow is the second book in The Storm Series. I ended the first book, Storm, with a lot of unanswered questions and I know this annoys some people, but I like leaving readers with a cliffhanger. I’ve always been curious about past lives and reincarnation, along with what the government doesn’t publicly disclose to its citizens. I took all of those aspects and incorporated them into the story where the main character has the ability to remember his past life.

Even though some people would recognize being able to recall a past life as a gift, the main character most certainly doesn’t see it that way. We get a glimpse of some of the characters’ past lives and who they were and what they were like. Then there’s The SEA (The Secret Eye Agency) which is operated on the basis of helping people for the greater good, but somewhere down the line, the mission statement no longer aligned with the actions of the agents. Essentially what was supposed to help people has become an agency feeding off of power.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Shadow: Run, but you can’t hide, what would they be?

Even though the book maintains a dark atmosphere, I would say the “Friends” theme song would perfectly fit the main characters.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I love reading romance novels and it’s not the same genre I write in. What’s even more bizarre is that I don’t read thrillers or watch movies in that genre, yet I am able to write in that genre with a breeze.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

The Power of your Subconscious Mind, The Wish, and The Power of Awareness.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

I would say the very last scene where all the characters are leaving Paradise Way. I can’t say much, but I bring back a character and… All I’ll say is that the readers are left with a lot of additional questions.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

Unfortunately, I don’t.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Listen to your intuition. It will always lead you to the path you’re supposed to be on. It truly knows the way!

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

It would be to cherish your time and your loved ones. We all know anything can change in a split second. We see it happen in our every day lives, but I don’t think we actually live our every day-to-day life as if it would be our last. We oftentimes hold on to meaningless arguments or grudges that don’t serve a purpose in the grand scheme of things. By doing this, we only rob ourselves of peace and happiness. Life is too short to not be happy.
