What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write A Bloody Banquet?
My mother was a huge movie buff, and for years the two of us used to watch all the old 1930s–50s mystery movies together. With that in mind, I wanted both of my mystery series to incorporate a solid whodunit, full of clues to follow along with, and plenty of humor.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of A Bloody Banquet, what would they be?
I’ve been trying to think of a good one. The two protagonists, Vivian and Preston, are at odds with each other while they solve some difficult crimes. I’ll keep thinking.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I love to read and write historical mysteries and romance, although I sometimes venture into other genres, such as fantasy and paranormal.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
Too many to list! I do love re-reading some of the classics, like Agatha Christie, Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca, and Charlotte Brontë’s Wuthering Heights.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I often struggle to find just the right beginning chapters for a new book, but in A Bloody Banquet, I flew through the first two action-packed chapters, and it was a lot of fun!
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I am either writing on my computer in our small den with plenty of windows or on our deck overlooking a pond. I also require background music, ranging from classical to hard rock.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
Follow your dreams…
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
I hope they remember that it was a fun ride with a surprising ending.
