Sean Gunn appeared in more than 130 episodes of Gilmore Girls, but according to him, the TV drama’s streaming popularity hasn’t made much of an impact on his finances. Gunn played Kirk Gleason, a kooky Stars Hollow resident, across all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls, which aired on The WB and The CW between 2000 and 2007. He returned to the part for the 2016 Netflix continuation, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. And in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter from the front lines of the SAG-AFTRA strike on Friday, January 14, Gunn said that the Gilmore Girls…

Maternal mortality rates in the U.S. dramatically worsened from 1999 to 2019, a new study finds. The research, published in July in the journal JAMA, reveals maternal mortality rates more than doubled in the U.S. in the past 20 years and bolsters existing evidence that certain racial and ethnic groups are at a greater risk of maternal mortality than others. Virtual reality was supposed to be the next big thing back in 2016, when the original Oculus Rift and HTC Vive launched. It was the tech whose time had finally arrived. Or so we thought. As it turned out, VR was still a little too expensive and perhaps too alienating to take over the gaming world. Then there was the hype about the “metaverse,” and now we’re seeing companies that invested heavily in VR starting to jump ship, so keep that in mind when you’re looking at investing in a new headset.Still, VR can be a cool way to experience…

One of the essential skills of a successful actor is the ability to shape-shift into characters far removed from oneself. Sometimes, that character has been meticulously crafted by the screenwriter — but other times, it’s pulled directly from the pages of history. Perfecting a portrayal of a real person is no easy feat, however. While there’s certainly a set of guidelines to follow, embodying someone from recent (or not so recent) history comes with all sorts of pitfalls and expectations. An actor’s main challenge when playing a real-life person on screen is avoiding mimicry. Obviously, the audience is supposed to suspend…

Minx was always a show that deserved more time. When MAX chose to cancel the series after an engaging and creative Season 1, fans were naturally annoyed because the series had only scratched the surface of the story it was telling. One of the best things Minx decided to do upon its return was not drag out the inevitable, which was getting the…

Meanwhile, Hanna’s team in Israel was growing mouse embryo models in a similar way, as they described in a paper in Cell that was published shortly before the paper from Zernicka-Goetz’s group. Hanna’s models too were made solely from embryonic stem cells, some of which had been genetically coaxed to become TSCs and XEN cells. “The entire synthetic organ-filled embryo, including extra-embryonic membranes, can all be generated by starting only with naive pluripotent stem cells,” Hanna said.Hanna’s embryo models, like those made by Zernicka-Goetz, passed through all the expected early developmental stages. After 8.5 days, they had a crude body…

However, somehow Marlena managed to take case notes. If the Devil’s notes are to be believed, Whitley’s husband and cats died of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning, triggering a mental breakdown. I’m not a fan of these stories involving mental illness leading to violence.…

A supernova that exploded close to our newly forming sun could have destroyed what became our solar system — if it weren’t for a shield of molecular gas.Scientists reached this conclusion by studying isotopes of elements discovered in meteorites. These space rocks are pieces of asteroids, which formed from material that was around when the sun and then the planets of the solar system formed. As such, meteorites are fossils of a sort, allowing scientists to reconstruct the evolution of the solar system. The research team found varying concentrations of a radioactive isotope of aluminum in meteorite samples. This information revealed…

In 1906, astronomer and businessman Percival Lowell launched a search for “Planet X,” a hypothetical giant planet orbiting the sun beyond Neptune. Lowell was convinced that Planet X existed based on some supposed irregularities he had observed in the orbits of Neptune and Uranus. His belief eventually led to the discovery of Pluto in 1930, though scientists later determined that the dwarf planet was too small to have a gravitational impact on Neptune’s orbit (let alone Uranus’).  Today, the Planet X hypothesis is largely considered to be discredited. However, that hasn’t stopped astronomers from looking for planets in the far reaches…

It’s that time of year again. That long, mostly holiday-bare stretch of the year in the northern hemisphere full of record-breaking temperatures, raging wildfires, and heat-related illnesses that we call summer. Not every home has air-conditioning. Adding it isn’t always financially or contractually possible. Others, to reduce environmental footprint, go without AC because the energy-sucking machines raise city temperatures by pumping heat outdoors. Even for those with AC, the power could go out during an ill-timed heat wave. Thanks to global climate change and the heat-island effect of urban cities trapping heat within pavement and buildings, life on Earth is growing…

After all, it’s the summer of the clean-girl aesthetic. Sleek, polished, anti-trend pieces are everywhere, so it only makes sense that fashion people are gravitating to the easy, minimal shorts right now. When it comes to styling, you can approach them in a similar way to denim shorts or jeans. Mary Beth Keane implies that the answer to that question is often no.  In her two most recent novels, the bestselling…
