[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] With The Witcher Season 3 Volume 2 now out, fans know how Henry Cavill‘s last appearance as Geralt of Rivia was staged. In the video above, we’re looking back at the full season with The Witcher stars as they shared their favorite sets and filming locations for the Netflix fantasy series’ third installment. At my county coroner’s office, I regularly review cases of murdered women. They are victims of domestic violence, overwhelmingly ones shot to death by ex-husbands, ex-boyfriends or other men they knew. The Supreme Court is now poised to decide whether to put guns more easily into the hands of these abusers-turned-murderers, which would enshrine domestic violence as a warped historical privilege of the U.S. Constitution. Or the Court can make the lifesaving and legally sound decision and protect people such as the murder victims—mothers, daughters and children—I see in those case files. In February a federal circuit court in Texas…

On July 20, Adam Sandler was unexpectedly spotted playing a casual game of pickup basketball with Timothée Chalamet. Once we got past the pure randomness of their friendship, we couldn’t help but notice — and chuckle at — Sandler’s fashion choice. He paired his basketball shorts with a gray T-shirt that, although very sweaty, clearly stated, “Let me ask my wife” in…

Black rhinos are dehorned to discourage poaching, but this may affect their social behaviourVanessa Duthe Black rhinoceroses whose horns have been removed to protect them from poaching seem to have a smaller home range and fewer interactions with other rhinos, but the practice wasn’t found to increase deaths from natural causes. The critically endangered black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) is often hunted for its horn. The animals are largely solitary, but social interactions are important for finding mates and establishing territories. Some research suggests that those with larger horns usually dominate in encounters between males. Since 2017, many reserves in South…

Every season of The Chi feels like the show has reinvented itself, keeping the same drift but with different strokes. The Chi Season 6 Episode 1 caught us up with where everyone was emotionally, economically, and of course, romantically. The cold open felt like a flashback as we met Keisha and Emmett in a familiar position where they still liked some morning glory action (okay, it was more Emmett than Keisha), but instead of Jada interrupting them, their choices did. The focus of the hour was Emmett, Douda, and their new partnership, which everyone who learned about it knew it was…

In a first, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) may have glimpsed a rare type of star that astronomers aren’t even sure exists. These stellar objects, called “dark stars,” might not have been fueled not by nuclear fusion but by the self-annihilation of dark matter—the invisible stuff that is thought to make up about 85 percent of the matter in the universe. The candidate stars seen by JWST will need more evidence to be confirmed, but if they’re real, the finding could change our story of how the first stars formed. Contrary to their name, dark stars could typically have…

Public libraries are synonymous with children today, with story times and an inviting children’s section considered essential features. Arguments for increasing or maintaining library funding often reference the library’s role in literacy education for kids as well as the many happy memories even adults who no longer frequent the library still hold for childhoods spent there. But public libraries weren’t always welcoming to kids, and a lot of the book banning strategies and the policies they’ve inspired might just have those child-free libraries make a comeback. The first publicly funded library in the U.S. was the Boston Public Library in…

You can’t tell the story of “Sex and the City” and its revival/sequel “And Just Like That” without spending an inordinate amount of time discussing the fashion. Over the course of the original show’s six seasons, Carrie Bradshaw became a universal style icon. She inspired generations of women to waltz around New York City in tulle dresses, all while carefully dodging potholes in their Manolo Blahnik pumps. Styled by the inimitable Patricia Field, Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) delighted in getting dressed. Her style was immaculate, quirky, vibrant, romantic: she’d stop by McDonald’s in a pink Oscar de la…

The United States is within reach of cutting its carbon pollution in half by 2035 — if it’s able to install a massive number of renewable energy projects. Or the nation could fall far short of its international climate promises and reduce its emissions by as little as 29 percent in 2030 — if fossil fuel prices…
