BBC One has dropped the official The Gold trailer for the upcoming crime drama. The series is inspired by the real-life Brink’s-Mat robbery which is Britain’s biggest gold heist to date. It currently has no exact release date but is expected to debut sometime this year.

The video highlights the events following the heist as the police scramble to quickly recover the stolen gold before it completely becomes untraceable. It also provides us with our first look at its acclaimed cast, including Hugh Bonneville and Dominic Cooper.

Check out the official The Gold trailer below:

The Gold is directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Aneil Karia and Lawrence Gough from a screenplay written by Neil Forsyth. The series is inspired by the iconic true story of the Brink’s-Mat robbery and the decades-long chain of events that followed.

It stars Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), Jack Lowden (Slow Horses), Dominic Cooper (The Preacher), Charlotte Spencer (The Duke), Tom Cullen (Black Mirror), Emun Elliott (Guilt, Old), Sean Harris (Mission: Impossible), Ellora Torchia (Midsommar), and Stefanie Martini (The Last Kingdom).

“On the 26 November 1983, six armed men broke into the Brink’s-Mat security depot near London’s Heathrow Airport, and inadvertently stumbled across gold bullion worth £26m,” reads the synopsis. “What started as ‘a typical Old Kent Road armed robbery’ according to detectives at the time, became a seminal event in British criminal history, remarkable not only for the scale of the theft, at the time the biggest in world history, but for its wider legacy.

Inspired by extensive research and interviews with some of those involved in the events, The Gold is a pulsating dramatization which takes a journey into a 1980s world awash with cheap money and loosened morals to tell this extraordinary and epic story for the first time in its entirety.”

The series is executive produced by Forsyth and Ben Farrell for Tannadice Pictures, Tommy Bulfin for BBC, and Kate Laffey and Claire Sowerby-Sheppard for VIS, with Charlie Leech serving as a producer.

The Gold will premiere in the UK on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, followed by its U.S. debut on Paramount+.
