Lowertown, the Atlanta-based bedroom pop duo of Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg, have announced their debut album. I Love to Lie is due out October 21 via Dirty Hit. Today, they’re sharing the lead single, “Bucktooth,” alongside a carnival-themed music video directed by Zev Magasis. Check it out below.
Osby said she and Weinberg wrote “Bucktooth” after revisiting old country and folk music while homesick in the London recording studio: “I was really into Johnny Cash’s At Folsom Prison album and wanted to write a cheeky, narrative song similar to ‘Cocaine Blues.’ A bucktooth cowboy with his crew of troublemaker bandits kept popping into my head. The song started as a silly story but ended up being thematically tied with some of the far-right extremism that was happening in America.”
I Love to Lie follows Lowertown’s 2021 EP The Gaping Mouth, as well as their 2020 EP Honeycomb, Bedbug and their 2019 debut release Friends. Read more about The Gaping Mouth in the feature “27 Great Records You May Have Missed: Autumn 2021.”
