Spider-Noir: Everything We Know So Far

Nicolas Cage will reprise the role of Spider-Man Noir in MGM + and Prime Video‘s series, Spider-Noir.

This will be a star-studded affair since Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s most popular comics and movie franchises.

It’s been developing for over a year and is a highly anticipated series. We’re here to share with you everything we know so far about Spider-Noir.

    Who is Spider-Man Noir?

Spider-Man Noir first appeared in Marvel comics in 2009. The stories took place in an alternate reality known as Earth Noir.

Peter receives his powers after being bitten by a spider and dreams of a spider god promising him great power. He has powers similar to those of his mainstream Spider-Man and strives to take down Gordan Osborn and his criminal allies.

While Peter Parker is often portrayed as younger, in the live-action version of Spider-Noir, Spider-Man Noir is an aging wall-crawler.

Spider-Man Noir is often more violent and willing to use various weapons to keep the streets safe in NYC in the 1930s, whereas Peter Parker rarely uses violence.

What Role Did Nicolas Cage Play in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse?

While this is the first live-action version of Spider-Man, the character has appeared in animation over the years.

Nicolas Cage voiced Spider-Man Noir in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Universe, where he was pulled into Miles Morales’s world after an incident at the Alhemax collider.

Spider-Man Noir made a non-speaking cameo in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, teasing his more significant return in the upcoming sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

What is Spider-Noir Season 1 About?

Spider-Noir will focus on the central character of Spider-Man Noir. This is the first time his story has been explored in the live-action format.

It’s also Nicolas Cage’s first television series role, so it will be interesting to see Cage portray the aging wall-crawler.

MGM+ and Amazon Prime are excited to expand the Marvel universe with Spider-Noir.

This is the official synopsis from the press site:

Noir tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.

Who Stars in Spider-Noir Season 1?

We’re excited about the star-studded cast for Spider-Noir, especially about the star playing the titular character.

No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character. said Katherine Pope, President Sony Pictures Television Studios.

Cage has had an impressive acting career since he began acting in 1982 with a minor role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Cage achieved most of his success from his action adventure movies, such as Face/Off, Gone in 60 Seconds, and National Treasure, but he also excelled at dramas and won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Las Vegas.

He’s done so many projects, from action films to animated ones. Cage portrayed Joe Exotic for eight episodes on Netflix’s Tiger King and hasn’t done any television roles.

    Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson

Robbie Robertson is a dedicated journalist who strives to survive in 1930s New York and tackles riskier stories without taking no for an answer.

Morris recently starred in the fifth season of FX’s anthology series Fargo. He’s most well-known for starring in FOX’s New Girl and leading Hulu’s Woke.

He was recently cast in the film SNL 1975 as Garrett Morris.

    Brendan Gleeson as The Villain

No details have been released, except it’s confirmed that Gleeson is the series’ villain. He is probably Norman Osborn.

Gleeson received an Academy Award and a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in The Banshees of Inisherin.

He’s also acted in many television series, including portraying President Trump in the Showtime miniseries The Comey Rule and in the crime drama Mr. Mercedes.

In a recent interview with The New Yorker, Nicolas Cage teased the series as a “Pop art mashup with some sparkle to it.”

He also mentioned that he hoped the series would feature him in black and white, like the animated version.

He’d love to do more black-and-white projects of the Golden Age but referred to Noir as popcorn entertainment. Cage’s on-screen experiences should bring more layers and depth to the character.

The series will have some fun monsters and villains, and Cage is ready for the action.

    Who Created Spider-Noir?

Spider-Noir is the second Marvel project that Sony and Amazon partnered up to develop associated with Spiderman. However, Silk: Spider Society, which was greenlit in 2022, did not move forward.

Oren Uziel (The Lost City) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher) have been developing the series since 2023. They’ll serve as co-showrunners and executive producers.

They worked with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, the winning team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. All three will also serve as executive producers.

The Emmy-winning director Harry Bradbeer will direct and produce the first two episodes.

The series was initially titled Noir, but in July, it changed its title to Spider-Noir to better incorporate its Spider-Man connections.

Spider-Noir will begin filming in Los Angeles in September 2024.

This series has an award-winning cast and crew behind it.

When Will Spider-Noir Season 1 Be Released?

As of now, Spider-Noir Season 1 does not have a premiere date. Please bookmark this page, and we will update you as soon as we have more information.

Prime Video and Nicolas Cage have confirmed that the upcoming series will have eight episodes in its first season.

While this is shorter than the typical 10-episode count we often see on streamers, we hope Spider-Noir can make this work.

Is There a Trailer for Spider-Noir?

If you have made it this far, you know there is not. Since the project was only announced in May 2024, and they are still announcing casting, we have a way to wait before there is the footage.

When we get a teaser or an official trailer, we will post it here.

We’re definitely excited about this one.
