When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 3: Secrets and Mysteries Take Over Hope Valley

When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 3: Secrets and Mysteries Take Over Hope Valley

    Critic’s Rating: 3.8 / 5.0

Some mysteries and secrets keep the romance alive, but other times, it can drive your partner insane.

That type of secret was the case in When Calls the Heart Season 12 Episode 3, as Rosemary grew more worried about what Lee was hiding. Rosemary seemed annoying while she snooped, but it was difficult not to have some compassion for her.

Oliver had his secret, which affected his ability to become a Mountie. He was fortunate that Elizabeth never gave up on anyone and believed in children’s future.

It’s a shame more people didn’t believe in and support Lucas.

It felt like he had lost most of his friends, something we didn’t want to see.

Rosemary Suspected There Was Something Wrong with Lee

It was difficult to blame Rosemary for being suspicious when her friends slipped that Lee had appointments to update his will and see Faith for a doctor’s appointment. She probably panicked, thinking something was wrong.

Watching Rosemary and Elizabeth snoop around town was amusing.

They hadn’t learned the art of being discreet, and even Elizabeth thought Rosemary should have just talked to Lee. Watching the women hide behind the trees and Mike get scared by moving bushes was priceless.

She tried to talk to Lee, and he avoided the conversation. He wanted to surprise her by building a new Goldie trail with Mike’s help before she learned about the issues.

That was only part of it. Lee was worried about leaving a legacy for Goldie and having her remember him since his dad died when he was young.

    A New Mystery Begins

When Calls the Heart Season 12 has utilized Ned and Florence much better. Who knew Ned was passionate about old coins?

I almost felt bad that Rosemary reported that a customer paid with a rare gold double-headed eagle coin, which led to an unexpected mystery.

The weekly promo made the coin mystery sound like a more significant case, but it didn’t kick off until the end of the episode.

Bill and Rosemary have made an entertaining investigative duo before, so I’m looking forward to watching them solve a robbery rather than a murder. While Rosemary has her hand in a few storylines, Bill needs something to do.

Elizabeth and Nathan Learned Oliver’s Secret

Oliver has wormed his way into our hearts in only a few episodes. He’s a respectful young man who works hard. The problem was that he couldn’t write. Initially, I suspected he had a learning disability.

Elizabeth did, too, since she offered to help him, but Oliver had no idea how to learn more straightforward skills like conjugating verbs.

His story angered me, though it was reasonably realistic at that time. Many farmhands were needed on the farm and weren’t allowed to attend school.

Therefore, it made sense that Oliver wanted more in life and lied about attending school and his skills to get into the Mounties.

Nathan was torn between helping Oliver and his sworn duty as a Mountie, which was to report the truth to his boss, Superintendent Hargraves. We were relieved that Bill and Elizabeth reminded Nathan that it was his responsibility to train Oliver.

I loved that Elizabeth maintained that they shouldn’t give up on children, and Nathan told Hargraves that Oliver completed his tasks and was a hard, loyal worker.

Nathan and Elizabeth have come a long way and are now mentoring another person together. It was a beautiful moment when Nathan acknowledged how lucky he and Oliver were.

They finally shared a private date in the sunset meadow, a moment fans had waited for. This scene was hinted at in the When Calls the Heart Season 12 Trailer, and the series finally excelled at showing the intricacies of their relationship.

Lucas Was Left Out in the Cold Again

We mentioned this previously, but Lucas’s running for politics was a detrimental decision.

Since he became governor, Lucas has been isolated in Capital City, away from his Hope Valley friends.

When he and Lee began working on the National Park project, I had hoped that they would become closer and that we would see more of Lucas’s friendships again.

That idea was squashed like a bug when Lucas tried to please the parties again instead of honoring his promises.

He returned to Hope Valley to attempt to reconcile with Lee, only to see how much had changed.

Mike was the only one who appeared happy to see him, and even he was torn between his friendship with Lucas and his loyalty to Lee.

Part of me felt terrible for Lucas when they converted his office into hazelnut storage, though it’s doubtful Henry meant to offend him. Everyone assumed he had moved on.

Lucas needed to learn not to listen to Edwin before he turned everyone away. Edwin implied that Edie Martell was a shark because she cared about the ranchers having land, and Lucas accused her of that.

That made their meeting in Hope Valley awkward and humorous. Hopefully, these two reach a compromise about the National Park before Lucas loses any more friends.

    Other Happenings in Hope Valley

We loved that the younger generation has been featured more, from advertising their hazelnut business on Rosemary’s show to learning more about the industry.

They’ve grown up, which Allie reiterated by wanting her first adult birthday party with both boys and girls in attendance. However, they must forgo the pigtails if they make her look like an older teenager.

Allie is going through the Laura Ingalls syndrome and still wears childish hairstyles. If they want her to look as mature as her friends and Earl Wyatt to take her seriously, it’s time to let her grow up.

Her birthday dance party should be enjoyable.

Now it’s your turn, Hearties. What did you think of Lee’s new surprise? Will Lucas ever make peace with his friends? Were you excited to see Nathan and Elizabeth share some private time?

We’d love to hear your thoughts, so share them with us in the comments below.
