The way everyone this season is united in their hatred for Raq would be impressive if it weren’t also annoying.
Is Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 going to make me root for Raq? Say it ain’t so.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 Episode 4 had a lot going on, so let’s go through the hour scene-by-scene in this recap!
Traymont is enjoying the good life in the penthouse suite of a hotel when he’s unceremoniously knocked out by Marvin, who’s waiting in his room and disguised as a hotel worker. Complete with lollipop in mouth, Marvin wheels him out of the hotel with no one the wiser.
Raq and Joyce go at it, as Raq’s still upset about how Joyce shared her diagnosis. Raq blasts her mother for never being a good mother and not caring about her kid’s feelings, while Joyce admits to her shortcomings but also defends her crappy parenting skills.
Joyce then wonders who will miss her when she’s gone, and Raq walks out because she can’t be bothered to entertain thoughts of forgiveness that day, which is incredibly relatable.
Marvin tortures Traymont in an abandoned pool, and you can tell he’s getting some sick pleasure out of it because Marvin loves an aggressive moment more than he loves to eat.
O-Cee brings Kanan the latest drop at his new apartment, and Krystal warns him about keeping business away from the teenage love den. Jukebox then visits to check out the place, and Kanan leaves her with Krystal, pissing Jukebox all the way off.
Marvin and Raq play Russian roulette with Traymont for funsies while Traymont tries to figure out what they want. Raq eventually relents and tells him she wants the name of his heroin supplier, and she’s deadly serious about this whole drug supplier thing.
Krystal apologizes to Jukebox for having her jumped, and Jukebox doesn’t forgive her because why would you? But Jukebox leaves slightly less annoyed than when she got there.
Lou-Lou watches B-Rilla in the studio booth and is approached by Imani, a product manager who’s going to be working with B-Rilla. She wants to amplify his presence in the marketplace, and no one is 100% sure what that means, but Lou-Lou is forever unimpressed, and she leaves as quickly as she arrives.
Kanan meets Snaps and Pop at their usual spot to give them their cut, and they immediately realize he’s short. They tell him to always be prepared for trouble, which is sound advice, considering he’s always in some kind of mess.
Unique tells Early that he’s ready to stop playing dead and continues his anti-Raq crusade, but Early tells him it’s a horrible idea. Marvin then shows up unannounced, and Unique books it because he’s not ready to pop up and say ‘ta-da’ just yet.
Marvin makes Early a business proposal related to his sports betting business, which Early happily accepts.
Snaps and Pop tell Kanan they’ll let the money slide this one time, and they get in their Unique bag to hate on Raq some. They tell him Quân has been asking about him and offer to facilitate a meeting.
Juke goes back to the club and hangs out with Mara. A girl approaches her to dance, but Juke politely turns her down.
Unique goes to Damon (if you said ‘who?’ out loud, that would be perfectly understandable.) Damon’s not interested in hearing Unique out, but he spits on Raq’s name enough times that Damon invites him inside his home.
Juke and Mara head out of the club and are accosted by Mara’s HUSBAND, who is a nasty little man. He pushes Jukebox to the ground, where she messes up the side of her face while dragging Mara away. And no one on the street lifts a finger to do anything.
Raq and Marvin meet with Traymont’s heroin supplier, and Raq tells him straight up that she doesn’t want to be supplied but instead the supplier herself. He looks pretty unimpressed with Marvin and tells her to come back to discuss more the next day alone.
Imani and Lou Lou meet with Lowell, and he doesn’t care how much Lou Lou hypes himself up. He wants the two of them to work together with B-Rilla, and that’s that.
Marvin and Early have a really good-looking pasta meal with Stefano. Marvin wants Early to be Stefano’s new sports betting guy since he killed the last one. Stefano’s okay with it, but he does warn Marvin that any mistake by Early will reflect on him, and this is all obviously going to go terribly wrong eventually.
Kanan meets with Quân and tells him to bypass Raq and just come to him if he needs anything. Quân, like almost everyone on this show, is a Raq-hater at heart, so he seems okay with that.
Unique and Damon hit Uncle Terry’s warehouse with the sole purpose of killing people, and Damon should have stayed his self back in Jersey because he’s killed and Unique barely makes it out alive.
Lou Lou and Imani chat at the jazz bar, and it’s very dull and inconsequential to the rest of the plot. However, they do talk about Famous and how he’s missing, and you have to wonder if they will keep bringing him up EVERY episode but not actually give us any information about where he is.
Raq and Marvin visit the warehouse, and Terry is not having it anymore! He wants out, but obviously, that is not happening. Raq may be starting to put the pieces together, but does she realize her enemy-to-lovers ex-situationship is the one destroying her life? Well, of course not because she thinks he’s dead.
Kanan tries to meet with Stefano, but he’s the only person on this show who likes Raq, and he barely lets him speak before he sends him on his way and tells him to appreciate his mother, which is quite possibly the worst thing you could ever say to Kanan.
Marvin comes home to see Jukebox’s busted face, and uh oh.
Raq goes back to see the heroin supplier alone, and he wants her to get in a car, she hesitates, but Raq is nothing if not a risk-taker, so she goes with him.
Unique thinks outside the box and goes to Theresa Boselli for help, telling her that he wants to make the people who murdered her family pay. She gives him the name of someone he should see, and Unique’s SO angry, will it ever end?
Raq meets with the main heroin man, and he gives her about twenty seconds of his time before he says they’ll be in touch. Okay, dude.
Kanan and Lou Lou chat about Famous and WHERE IS THAT BOY? Did one of them kill him, and they’re playing it really cool? Did he leave town? Can we find out so it can stop being talked about ominously every week?
The cops go to Raq’s to tell her about Andre, and oh yeah, he was killed during Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 4 Episode 2, and I’d forgotten entirely. Raq is as unhelpful as ever, but when they leave, it seems to finally set in that someone HATES her.
Marvin and Jukebox go to Mara’s place so Marvin can beat up her husband, Aaron. Things take an odd turn in the middle of the tussle when Aaron gets the upper hand, and for a second, I thought we were going to bury Marvin before Joyce!
But no, JUKEBOX shoots Aaron dead in the middle of the day, and then she and Marvin rode off into the daylight, and I’m pretty sure we just saw the switch we’ve all been waiting for in Laverne ‘Jukebox’ Thomas.
