The first cut is the deepest, and Paramount+ With Showtime is taking us back to the start of Dexter Morgan’s vigilante murders with the upcoming series Dexter: Original Sin.
The streamer has released a new trailer for the prequel series that shows the younger version of the titular serial slaughterer as he learns to hone his code and craft, with the help of his adoptive father. The trailer also may give fans the answers to the biggest question surrounding the upcoming sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection, by showing Michael C. Hall’s version being rushed to the hospital after bleeding out in the cold in New Blood. Dun dun dun…
The franchise continues to be killer for the network (there’s even more coming!), so read on for everything you need to know about the prequel coming to TVs soon, how much Michael C. Hall is involved in it, and more.
When does Dexter: Original Sin take place?
The new thriller is set 15 years before the original Dexter series, which aired eight seasons from 2006 to 2013.
What is the prequel about?
The 10-episode drama series follows America’s favorite serial killer in training, with Patrick Gibson taking on the role of Dexter as “he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”
Who’s in the Dexter: Original Sin cast?
In addition to Gibson and Slater, Dexter stars Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, and Reno Wilson. Sarah Michelle Gellar is a special guest star.

Yes! There’s a new spinoff coming, Dexter: Resurrection, in summer 2025. It is set after Dexter: New Blood, and Hall will once again play Dexter, who was last seen dead.
