“Volcanoes, sinkholes, fatherhood, love, death, humor, laughter, and lots and lots of food.” That’s how “9-1-1” showrunner Tim Minear summarizes the show’s upcoming 10th season, some of which is on display in ABC’s official trailer.
“Funnily enough, it opens with a giant sinkhole,” Minear tells TVLine of Season 10. “And while we were prepping that, a giant sinkhole opened up on Sunset Boulevard. It’s not my fault! I would chalk that more up to the competence of how the city is run. But, yeah, it’s a giant sinkhole that then turns into, of course, a volcano.”
Looking ahead to the show’s milestone season, Minear says, “I don’t know if it’s business as usual, but we were kind of laying the groundwork last season to have some fresh ground to cover this season. Athena’s going to be a detective, Buck’s trying to be a dad, May is starting her new career in the medical field, and Harry’s a firefighter now. We didn’t do it all at once, but we gradually started planting those seeds. It’s the same show, but hopefully not a hamster wheel of a show.”
Season 10 of “9-1-1” kicks off on Thursday, October 15 at 8/7c, followed by the Season 2 premiere of “9-1-1: Nashville” and the Season 23 premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
“9-1-1” stars Angela Bassett as Detective Athena Grant, Oliver Stark as firefighter Evan “Buck” Buckley, Aisha Hinds as firefighter/paramedic Henrietta “Hen” Wilson, Kenneth Choi as Captain Howard “Chimney” Han, Jennifer Love Hewitt as dispatcher Maddie Han, Ryan Guzman as firefighter/paramedic Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz, Corinne Massiah as nurse May Grant, Elijah M. Cooper as firefighter Harry Grant, and Gavin McHugh as Eddie’s son Christopher Diaz.
