On Sunday night (April 3), SZA hauled herself to the 2022 Grammys on a pair of crutches; during the ceremony, Lady Gaga help her on stage to collect the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award with Doja Cat. SZA later said that she had fallen out of bed before the ceremony—what she didn’t know was that her ankle was broken, a diagnosis she shared from a hospital bed in an Instagram story the following day.
“Chipped the corner of my ankle bone right off doing NOTHING,” she wrote alongside a picture of the X-ray, adding that she was expecting it to be a sprain. “I was NOT missing that red carpet.”
After the event, she had said, “Whenever something big happens to me, something crazy happens too.” The award for “Kiss Me More” was her first ever, out of 14 total nominations. Pitchfork has emailed her representatives for more information.
