In a scene seemingly pulled straight from Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David reportedly accosted Elon Musk over his support of the Republican Party at a wedding in May of last year.
According to author Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography, Elon Musk, the incident occurred at Hollywood power player Ari Emanuel’s wedding in Saint-Tropez, France. David, who officiated the ceremony, shared a table with Musk and “seemed to be fuming” when he confronted the Tesla and Twitter executive.
“Do you just want to murder kids in schools?” David asked Musk, appearing to reference the school shooting that took place in Uvalde, Texas just days before the wedding. In response, the “baffled” and “annoyed” Musk reportedly said, “I’m anti-kid murder,” to which David replied, “Then how could you vote Republican?”
Isaacson wrote in the biography that David confirmed the details of the encounter. “His tweets about voting Republican because Democrats were the party of division and hate were sticking in my craw,” the staunchy Democratic comedian explained. “Even if Uvalde never happened, I probably would have brought it up, because I was angry and offended.”
This isn’t the first time a story has surfaced about David stepping up to a fellow celebrity for their political ties. In 2021, he apparently “screamed” at Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz for his ties to Donald Trump.
Musk has claimed he “overwhelmingly” voted for Democrats in the past, including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, but his stance has changed over time. Last year, Musk declared he would begin voting Republican after becoming increasingly critical of President Biden.
