Lambchop Announce New Album The Bible, Share New Song “Police

Lambchop have announced a new album. It’s called The Bible and it’s out September 30 via Merge in North America and City Slang for the rest of the world. To preview the record, the band has shared the lead single, “Police Dog Blues.” Kurt Wagner explained in a statement that he wrote the song after witnessing the unrest in Minneapolis in 2020 while listening to the Blind Blake song “Police Dog Blues.” Check it out below.

Accompanying “Police Dog Blues” is a music video directed by Isaac Gale, who generated it on the Unreal 3D graphics engine. “We took the police dog from the song title literally and imagined a city, post cop-apocalypse, overrun by German Shepherds just kinda doing their thing,” Gale said in a statement. “White privilege and apathy in the face of disastrous reality. I don’t think it’s stretching it to compare the police in Minneapolis—where myself and the producers of the record, Ryan Olson and Andrew Broder, all live—to a human-made catastrophic disaster.”

The Bible follows Lambchop’s 2021 album Showtunes, as well as 2020’s Trip, the latter of which is a covers LP featuring songs by artists like the Supremes and Stevie Wonder.
