Jimmy Buffett died Friday, September 1st at the age of 76. His cause of death was the result of a prolonged battle with skin cancer and lymphoma, according to TMZ.
“He lived his life in the sun, literally and figuratively,” an unnamed friend of Buffet told TMZ.
Buffett was first diagnosed with cancer four years ago and reportedly entered hospice last Monday. TMZ also reports that Paul McCartney visited Buffett during his final week of life and performed music for him and his family.
Earlier this year, Buffett postponed several upcoming concerts in order to “address some issues that needed immediate attention.” He said at the time, “Growing old is not for sissies, I promise you. I also will promise you, that when I am well enough to perform, that is what I’ll be doing in the land of She-Crab soup.” He went on to address his fans, saying: You all make my life more meaningful and fulfilled than I would have ever imagined as a toe-headed little boy sitting on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico.”
