Chai are back with a new song, “We the Female!,” and an accompanying music video that pays homage to 1980s television shows. In the visual, directed by Cezan Iseda, all four band members dance their way through an audition tape and live band performance while a board of judges, also played by Chai, looks on. “We are human and were born as female, but we have both female and male aspects in each of our souls, each with our own sense of balance,” the band explained. “We can’t just label ourselves into clear-cut, simple categories anymore! I’m not anyone else but just ‘me,’ and you are no one else but just ‘you.’ This song celebrates that with a roar!”
Last year, Chai released the new songs “Surprise” and “Whole.” The band’s last album, their Sub Pop debut Wink, came out in 2021. They followed it up with a remix EP titled Wink Together, the standalone song “Miniskirt,” and a cover of Wham!’s holiday classic, “Last Christmas.”
