‘Your Outie Likes X’ Memes Go Viral Amid Severance Season 2

Amid the release of Severance Season 2, a meme called “Your Outie Likes X” has gone viral across the internet. As a result, social media users have taken to their platforms to participate in the trend. The Apple TV+ series Severance follows employees of a fictional industry called Lumon, whose work memories have been split from their personal life memories. This memory split gives rise to two personas, dubbed an Innie and an Outie. The Innie persona is active while an employee is at the workplace. Meanwhile, the Outie persona takes hold when they are at home or outside of the office.

How ‘Your Outie Likes X’ memes went viral

The “Your Outie Likes X” meme first went viral on May 5, 2022. This was one month after the Season 1 finale, which aired in April. However, its origins lie in the second episode of Season 1, “Half-Loop.”

In the episode, Irving as an Innie undergoes a wellness session with counselor Ms. Casey. Here, she reads out various facts about his Outie persona, which Irving reacts to in a shocked and amazed manner. However, Irving is not allowed to react to any facts or show a preference as that would lead to him losing employee points.

In May 2022, a user took to X (formerly Twitter) and put up a post that had Ms. Casey’s image. Pretending as if they were an Innie and Ms. Casey had been reading their Outie facts to them, they shared some interesting details about what their hypothetical Outie might be like.

This meme soon saw a meteoric rise in popularity and many other social media users shared their versions of it. For instance, one user posted that their Outie had liked the video game Bloodborne.

The meme was met with a resurgence in January 2025, leading up to Severance Season 2’s premiere. On TikTok, one user posted about how their Outie was like a Disney villain due to their specific behavior or preferences.

Meanwhile, some users have shared how they would likely hate or not get along with their Outie selves if they ever met them.

The “Your Outie Likes X” meme’s growing popularity seems to indicate that the meme will continue to thrive on social media until at least the conclusion of Severance Season 2, if not beyond.
