Scream 5 returned the Ghostface story to Woodsboro with a new series of attacks. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett released the film in theaters on January 14, 2022, set 25 years after the original Woodsboro killings.
The story follows sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter after Tara becomes one of Ghostface’s first targets. Tara survives the attack and is hospitalized, bringing Sam back to Woodsboro after she previously left the town at 18 because of mental health issues.
As Ghostface continues attacking people linked to Woodsboro’s history, Sam becomes involved in the investigation and turns to Dewey Riley, a survivor of the original killings, for help.
Dewey then reconnects with Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers as the new murders draw the younger characters into another Ghostface case. Neve Campbell stars as Sidney Prescott, Courteney Cox plays Gale Weathers, and David Arquette returns as Dewey Riley. Melissa Barrera plays Sam Carpenter, while Jenna Ortega portrays Tara Carpenter, and Jack Quaid appears as Richie Kirsch.

According to Box Office Mojo, this includes approximately $82.6 million from domestic theaters and $56.1 million from international markets.
