What happens in the Toy Story 5 teaser trailer?
The video and poster teased the arrival of the franchise’s next antagonist in the form of Lilypad, a high-tech, frog-shaped smart tablet voiced by Greta Lee (Past Lives). This new character will make Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs exponentially harder when Lilypad threatens to take all of Bonnie’s attention away from them during playtime. The teaser trailer also provides fans with a first look at the rest of the gang’s return, including Jessie, Hamm, Rex, Slinky Dog, Mr. Potato Head, Mrs. Potato Head, Forky, and the Aliens.
Toy Story 5 is directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo) and Kenna Harris, with Lindsey Collins serving as a producer. The next installment will also feature the voices of Joan Cusack as Jessie, Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, Tony Hale as Forky, and Conan O’Brien as toilet training tech toy Smarty Pants. In a previous interview, Allen confirmed that the new story will put Jessie at the center of the film.
“It’s been a hilarious and poignant journey exploring how our favorite team of legacy toys might respond to today’s world of technology, and we’re thrilled to share this first glimpse with audiences,” Stanton and Harris said in a statement. “Having the remarkably talented Greta Lee bring Lilypad to life — balancing a playfully antagonistic tone with humor and heart — has been incredible.”
