In a detailed statement, the acclaimed author addressed accusations from multiple women, which were highlighted in a New York Magazine article. Here’s everything you need to learn about Gaiman’s statement.

Neil Gaiman releases statement denying sexual assault allegations

Neil Gaiman has issued a statement firmly denying allegations of sexual assault and misconduct following a series of claims made by multiple women. The accusations came to light following an investigation by Tortoise Media and a report by New York Magazine. The women, including those interviewed for the Tortoise podcast, claim that while some of their sexual relationships with Gaiman were consensual, certain activities, such as BDSM and rough sex, occurred without prior agreement. Additionally, one woman alleged that Gaiman pressured her into sex in exchange for allowing her to stay on his property.

Gaiman addressed these claims by reiterating that all his sexual relationships were consensual. On his personal website, he wrote, “I’m far from a perfect person, but I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever.” In his statement, Gaiman acknowledged he had made personal mistakes in the past, reflecting on how his actions may have been emotionally distant and self-centered. However, he rejected the idea of any abusive behavior. He added, “I am prepared to take responsibility for any missteps I made. I’m not willing to turn my back on the truth, and I can’t accept being described as someone I am not, and cannot and will not admit to doing things I didn’t do.”

The controversy surrounding Gaiman has had significant consequences for his career. In the wake of the allegations, multiple screen adaptations of his work have been paused or canceled. This includes Dead Boy Detectives and the third season of Good Omens. There is no official confirmation linking these decisions to the allegations. However, it is reported by Deadline that Gaiman stepped back from his role in Good Omens due to the situation.
