A popular NBC show has been canceled after two seasons.
Deal or No Deal Island is a reality competition show that aired on NBC in February 2024. Hosted by Joe Manganiello, the show serves as a spin-off to the Deal or No Deal game show and sees contestants compete in physical and mental challenges in an island setting. The second season premiered in January 2025.
Why did NBC cancel Deal or No Deal Island?
Per Deadline, NBC has opted not to renew Deal or No Deal Island for a third season.
“Deadline understands that the show, a retooling of the classic Dutch game show, has been canceled at the Comcast-owned broadcast network,” the article notes. “It’s not a huge surprise given that the series, which aired its second season earlier this year, averaged a 0.24 in the 18-49 demo, per Nielsen, down from Season 1.
“…Deal or No Deal Island shook up the original format, which was based in a studio with a number of briefcases hidden around an island with more than $200 million in prize money split between them. In each episode, players compete in physical and mental challenges to secure the briefcases that will be used in that night’s game. The player who snags the highest-value case gains immunity and gets to choose a fellow player to enter The Temple. The chosen competitor must then play a classic game of Deal or No Deal. If the player makes a bad deal, they are immediately eliminated. If the player makes a good deal, the power is in their hands and they get to select who to eliminate. The winnings from each game are then added to a group pot that will grow to an exponential value throughout the season. However, the Banker is always watching and raising the stakes with tests of strategy and greed.”
Deal or No Deal Island is produced by Endemol Shine North America. Manganiello, Matt Kunitz, Vittoria Cacciatore, Jeffrey Breeden, Howie Mandel and Endemol Shine North America’s Sharon Levy, Michael Heyerman, and Sean Loughlin serve as executive producers.
