Killing Eve‘s writer is bringing yet another crime thriller to the BBC. The upcoming series will be based on an acclaimed novel by an international bestselling author.

According to Deadline, BBC Studios Fiction is developing an adaptation of The Paying Guests. It’s a 2014 crime thriller novel by popular Welsh author Sarah Waters. Kayleigh Llewellyn, the writer of In My Skin and Killing Eve, is set to adapt the book for the screen. She is also penning another upcoming BBC series, The Dream Lands.

The official logline of The Paying Guests reads, “Set in London in 1922, The Paying Guests follows Frances Wray and her mother as they take in married lodgers Lilian and Leonard Barber. What begins as a clandestine, intoxicating love affair between Frances and Lilian spirals into a twisting crime thriller, culminating in a brutal murder and a nail‑biting court case.”

The Sunday Times named The Paying Guest “Fiction Book of the Year.” The book was also shortlisted for the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction.

Waters’ other acclaimed novels that have previously made it to the screen include Tipping the Velvet, Fingersmith, Affinity, The Night Watch, and The Little Stranger. The Novelist has been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and Women’s Prize for Fiction for her works. She remains one of the most adapted authors today.

The Paying Guests joins BBC Studios’ growing drama slate with Time Season 3

BBC Studios Fiction, which was created last year, is expanding its slate with The Paying Guests, along with the upcoming third season of Time.

Created and co-written by Jimmy McGovern, Time is an anthology crime drama series that follows the lives of inmates and staff in His Majesty’s Prison Service. The third season of the show will star David Tennant and Siobhan Finneran and is set in a Young Offenders Institution. BBC One has not announced the release date for Season 3 yet.
