Gina Carano has broken her silence following a surprising legal settlement with Disney. In a recent statement, Carano addressed her lawsuit, The Mandalorian firing, and Elon Musk’s support. The agreement marks a major shift in her relationship with the studio.
Gina Carano happy with Disney’s lawsuit settlement after getting fired
Gina Carano and The Walt Disney Company jointly filed to dismiss her lawsuit on August 7, 2025.
The dismissal with prejudice officially ended her legal battle over her 2021 firing from The Mandalorian. The court filing stated that both parties had agreed to dismiss all claims and defenses, pending a judge’s approval.
The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm issued a formal statement: “The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.” (via Variety)
Carano filed the lawsuit in 2024, claiming wrongful termination and political discrimination after her removal from The Mandalorian. One of her social media posts had compared being Republican to being Jewish during the Holocaust. Her lawsuit sought reinstatement and at least $75,000 in damages. Elon Musk funded her legal fees, following his 2023 promise to support users fired for their posts on X (formerly Twitter).
On the day of the filing, Carano wrote on X, “… and the truth shall set you free.” She later released a full statement, which reads, “I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved. I hope this brings some healing to the force. Carano thanked Musk, her legal team, and fans, saying she’s ready to move on and continue working in the arts.
