DC Studios’ upcoming Jimmy Olsen series is eyeing comedic actors to voice Gorilla Grodd as the project moves closer to production. The surprising casting approach suggests a lighter take on the iconic DC villain.
Gorilla Grodd could receive a comedic voice in the Jimmy Olsen series
DC Studios may be planning a very different take on Gorilla Grodd for its upcoming Jimmy Olsen series. Specifically, according to a Nexus Point News report, the studio is searching for a voice actor with a background in comedy to portray the iconic DC villain. No one has officially confirmed the casting yet, but the approach suggests the series could present Grodd in a more lighthearted way.
Beyond Grodd, the report also claims the studio is casting several additional superpowered characters, along with a lawyer. This has led to speculation that Grodd could find himself involved in a legal case during the series. However, no one has confirmed this at this stage.
Meanwhile, according to the publication, DC Crime will begin filming in Atlanta toward the end of August and continue production through October. The report also notes the studio originally planned to shoot the series alongside Man of Tomorrow, but budgetary reasons delayed the greenlight and pushed production back. As a result, the crew will now begin filming shortly after wrapping work on the Superman sequel.
Overall, the casting update offers another glimpse into DC Crime, the Jimmy Olsen series starring Skyler Gisondo. The project follows the Daily Planet photographer as he investigates crimes connected to some of the universe’s most dangerous villains. Gorilla Grodd will play a significant role in the story.
American Vandal creators Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda developed the series and will also write, direct, and showrun it. The series is set to premiere on HBO Max next year.
