Ryan Reynolds-led family comedy to leave Netflix in October
Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski’s family comedy IF is set to leave Netflix soon, according to What’s on Netflix. The 2024 film will remain available on the streaming platform for a limited time before its scheduled departure on October 9, 2026.
In addition to starring, John Krasinski wrote and directed IF, which was released in theaters on May 17, 2024. The film follows Bea, a 12-year-old girl who moves to her grandmother’s apartment in New York while her father undergoes heart surgery. Her circumstances change when she begins seeing imaginary friends that have been left behind by the children they were created for.
Bea eventually meets Cal, who has been helping these forgotten companions find new children. Cailey Fleming leads the cast as Bea, with Ryan Reynolds playing Cal. Krasinski portrays Bea’s father, while Fiona Shaw appears as her grandmother. Alan Kim plays Benjamin, and Liza Colón-Zayas portrays Janet, alongside the rest of the cast.
The film received a mixed response from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, IF received a 50 percent score from critics based on 213 reviews. The film has received a stronger response from audiences, with an 85 percent audience score on the platform.
Yasmine Kandil of Discussing Film reported, “Each viewer will be able to take something rather emotional away from this family film’s reflections on the fleeting nature of childhood while also having an overall fun time at the movies.” IF earned approximately $190.5 million at the worldwide box office, with around $111.3 million coming from domestic theaters.
