These $50 Old Navy Split-Hem Jeans Are Almost as Comfortable

When my former coworker reviewed the Old Navy Extra High-Waisted Button-Fly Kicker Boot-Cut Ripped Cut-Off Jeans way back in 2021, I knew they’d eventually need to land a spot in my wardrobe. I fell in love with everything about them, from the cutoff hem to their understated boot-cut silhouette, but I waited too long to add them to my cart, and they ultimately went out of stock — until recently. While checking out the brand’s new arrivals for March, I came across an updated version of the original style. Enter the Old Navy Extra High-Waisted Button-Fly Kicker Boot-Cut Side-Slit Jeans ($50). At first glance, their style names might look identical, but what separates the two is that the latest version features one of the most highly coveted details of the moment: a side slit. Ahead, I break down everything you need to know about the style to determine if you should add them to your cart for spring. (Spoiler alert: you definitely should.)

What I Love About the Old Navy Extra High-Waisted Button-Fly Kicker Boot-Cut Side-Slit Jeans

You guessed it: the side slit. As trendy as the detail is right now, it’s subtle enough that these jeans will be a timeless addition to my denim collection. They’re soft and stretchy, not stiff and rigid. Because of their comfy fit, I’ve been wearing them to feel put-together while working from home in place of my usual leggings — and they don’t disappoint. The ultracomfy fit is crafted from 69 percent cotton, 24 percent lyocell, six percent recycled cotton, and one percent spandex.

For the record, I already own the Old Navy Higher High-Waisted Side-Slit Flare Jeans ($50), which I waxed poetic about last summer, and I’m equally obsessed. What’s different about the two designs is the newer pair features a medium wash, a button fly, and a less-pronounced slit on the inside of the leg. Last year’s style boasts a light wash, a zippered fly, and an outer-facing slit. If you’re torn between the two, the good news is that you can’t go wrong with either.

What’s Worth Noting About the Old Navy Extra High-Waisted Button-Fly Kicker Boot-Cut Side-Slit Jeans

Admittedly, these jeans have mixed reviews, but it’s not a quality issue. The tricky thing about this style is that the sizing is hard to nail down. I ordered my usual size 6 and found that they ran a bit bigger than expected, certainly a bit larger in the waist and thigh than my other pairs of Old Navy jeans. That said, I will be swapping out these jeans for one size down, which isn’t the most convenient, but it doesn’t take a toll on how much I love the design — and how flattering it is. Shoppers agree with the sizing inconsistency. “I absolutely LOVE these jeans,” one shopper wrote. “They’re so comfy and cute, and the slit at the bottom gives them a little bit of detail. My only complaint is they run very large.” Another person wrote, “These are super cute, I think they run a little big, wish I had ordered a smaller size.”

Who Are the Old Navy Extra High-Waisted Button-Fly Kicker Boot-Cut Side-Slit Jeans For?

The Old Navy Extra High-Waisted Button-Fly Kicker Boot-Cut Side-Slit Jeans are best for those looking for versatile denim that’ll take you from work to the weekend and day to night seamlessly.
