Selena Gomez and Kylie Jenner Break Silence on Accusations That

It isn’t often that celebrities engage with fan theories, but Selena Gomez and Kylie Jenner made a concerted effort to shut down speculation that Jenner and Hailey Bieber subtly mocked Gomez’s appearance on their social media accounts.

Earlier this week when Gomez paid tribute to her “girl crush” Bella Hadid, the singer also shared on TikTok that she over-laminated her brows. Fans noticed that Jenner and Bieber posted Instagram Stories about their own brows just hours after Gomez posted the video, with Jenner writing over her brow, “this was an accident?” One user pointed out the timing of the post, describing it as “shade” to Gomez and “childish.” Jenner commented on her video, denying that any offense to Gomez was intended.

“This is reaching,” Jenner wrote. “No shade towards Selena ever and I didn’t see her eyebrow posts! U guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly.”

Gomez appeared to respond to Jenner’s comment in a screenshot by the Instagram account Comments by Celebs, writing, “Agreed @kyliejenner. It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”

The comments came the same day Gomez surpassed Jenner as the most followed woman on Instagram.

Gomez spoke to Vanity Fair in an interview released earlier this month about how TikTok is the only social media she has on her phone. (The rest are handled by her assistant.)Comments on other platforms, especially those comparing her to her ex Justin Bieber’s partners, became hard to take in, leading her to take Instagram off her phone years ago.

“People can call me ugly or stupid and I’m like, Whatever. But these people get detailed,” Gomez said. “They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean. I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety…I couldn’t do it anymore. It was a waste of my time.”

“The only thing I have on my phone is TikTok because I find it to be a little less hostile,” she added. “There are wonderful things about social media—connecting with fans, seeing how happy and excited they are and their stories. But usually that’s filtered through [for me now]. I created a system. Everything I do I send to my assistant who posts them. As far as comments, my team will put together a few things that are encouraging.”
