Blake Lively is living her best life in a red-hot bikini this summer. On Aug. 18, Lively headed to the pool in a high-waisted bikini paired with a yellow-tinted visor and gold hoop earrings. “this isn’t how you hang by the pool? . . . weird,” Lively captioned Instagram photos of herself sipping club soda and sparkling water as part of her new Betty Buzz ad.
Embracing the primary color scheme, Lively secured her loose blond waves with yellow hair ties on either side of her head. She also paired the ensemble with a yellow-and-white striped pool towel worn across her shoulders like a shrug. Her beauty team completed the look with red lipstick and a matching manicure. Between the red swimsuit, the visor, and the white-striped crew socks on her feet, Lively’s outfit was serving 1980s lifeguard. A closer look at her swimsuit, though, reveals a possible sartorial nod to a close family friend: Taylor Swift.
It’s no secret that Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and Swift have all been close friends for years. Swift even revealed the name of the couple’s third child in her 2020 song “Betty,” off of the “Folklore” album. Now, intentionally or not, Lively’s swimsuit seems to be a subtle nod to the various eras of Swift’s music catalog. Specifically, fans were quick to call out that the cherry-red shade screamed “Red,” while the cut of the swimsuit itself was fitting of Swift’s bubblegum-pink outfit in the “You Need to Calm Down” music video tied to her “Lover” era.
With “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” slated for release this October, many fans have speculated that “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” will be the next re-recording on the list. In the comments section, though, fans speculated that Lively’s bikini and close connection to Swift could indicate the “Red” or “Lover” re-recordings will soon. “Red (Taylor’s Version) is next Omg! I’d love to see u involved in a project,” one fan commented on Lively’s post. Though Lively’s swimsuit likely has nothing to do with Swift’s upcoming albums, it’s possible she has some insight into what’s next for the 12-time Grammy Award winner.
