Vinyl Resting Place by Olivia Blacke

What’s it About?

When Juni Jessup and her sisters put all their beans in one basket to open Sip & Spin Records, a record-slash-coffee shop in Texas, they knew there could be some scratches on the track, but no one was expecting to find a body deader than disco in the supply closet.

Coffee, music, and murder.

Olivia Blacke‘s first book in the Record Shop Mysteries, Vinyl Resting Place (St. Martin’s), is a thrilling and lighthearted mystery that keeps you engrossed page after page. If you are looking for a cozy mystery to warm up your winter days, look no further! Join the Jessup sisters as they solve the murder of the Sip & Spin.

Murder on Record Store’s Opening Night

We find ourselves amid a mysterious murder in small-town Texas that unfortunately takes place on the opening night of the Jessup sister’s new record/coffee shop, aptly named Sip & Spin. What was meant to be a night for new beginnings turned out to be the end for dear Monica Mayhew, who was found in the shop’s supply closet.

The situation goes awry almost immediately when old Uncle Calvin decides to suddenly skip town without a trace, leaving Juni and her sisters with more questions than answers. With their new business and Uncle Calvin’s freedom hanging in the balance, they decide to investigate this whodunit independently.

A Cozy Texan Mystery at its Finest

Vinyl Resting Place is an engaging mystery filled to the brim with witty characters, but our leading lady, Juniper Jessup (Juni to friends and family), takes the cake. She is a witty woman with a colorful personality, acting like a dog with a bone trying to figure out the mysterious murder.

I found myself relating to her character quite a bit. We’re both Texas gals, the youngest of 3 sisters, obsessed with music and caffeine, and understand the value of Whataburger, which is a Texas intuition (if you know, you know.)

Pun-Filled, Well-Plotted and Un-Putdownable

This book kept me on edge, and the puns kept me entertained until the very end. Not only is there a well-plotted Texas-sized mystery to keep the blood pumping, but thrown in the mix for good measure is a love triangle between Juni, her ex-high school sweetheart turned cop and her childhood BFF!

This first track of the Record Shop Mysteries will satisfy your inner sleuth and is the perfect gateway into the cozy mystery genre. I look forward to seeing what trouble these characters will get into next. In the meantime, you can find me jamming out and wishing I had a delicious cup of “Friends in Mocha Places.”

About Olivia Blacke:

Olivia Blacke, author of the Record Shop Mysteries, beginning with Vinyl Resting Place, and the Brooklyn Murder Mysteries (Killer Content and No Memes of Escape), finally found a way to put her criminology degree to good use by writing quirky, unconventional, character-driven cozy mysteries. Olivia is a little nerdy, a lot awkward, and just the right amount of weird.

She is a recovering ex-Texan who resides with her husband, Potassium, and Baileycakes, their roly-poly rescue puggle. When not writing, reading, or spending way too much time on social media, Olivia enjoys amigurumi crochet, scuba diving, collecting tattoos, watching hockey, and baking dog cookies. She wants to be a unicorn when she grows up.
