I’m writing to you from the first week of the second Trump presidency, and there’s already been an onslaught of attacks on transgender and nonbinary people’s rights, including an executive order to only recognize two binary genders. It’s exhausting, and we’ve barely begun these four years. But I’m reminded of an illustration I saw recently by artist Elise Schuenke: in two panels, they say, “I may be scared of 2025. But 2025 should be scared of me too.“
There is so much to do to fight back, from calling your representative to building queer and trans community. Maybe a small part of that for you is being more loud and proud in your identity.
