Interview with Tara Grayce, Author of Forest of Scarlet

master mentalism tricks

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Forest of Scarlet?

The Scarlet Pimpernel is one of my favorite works of classic literature! I knew I wanted to retell it someday. When I set out to write this fae fantasy series, I knew this was the perfect place to write this story. It is a mash-up of fae + Scarlet Pimpernel style cloak and dagger action!

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I love YA romantic fantasy / light fantasy. Something funny, whether it is urban fantasy or a light romantic fantasy. That’s the same genre I write in.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

I ADORE the banter scene between our leading lady Brigid and the villain near the end of the book. I laughed all the way through writing it.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I love to burn candles while I write. I’ll often pick 2-3 candles with scents that make me think of a book’s world and characters, then I’ll rotate through them while writing each particular book.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

While this world might seem dark, love and hope are worth holding onto.
