master mentalism tricks

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Song of Scarabs and Fallen Stars?

Like so many of my story ideas, the idea for this book came to me in the shower! The main character, Tarset, is actually a side character from two of my other series. My readers have been asking for her to get her own story for years, and I think their enthusiasm simmered on the back burner in my mind until – suddenly – my muse struck me with an epic scene that became the climax of the story.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Song of Scarabs and Fallen Stars, what would they be?

Tarset – Bells in Santa Fe by Halsey; Atum – Killing Strangers by Marilyn Manson.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Definitely Urban Fantasy, though Dark Fantasy Romance has definitely been appealing to me lately.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Crescent City: House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J Maas, The Crown of Gilded Bones by Jennifer L Armentrout, A Touch of Darkness by Scarett St. Clair, Million Dollar Demon by Kim Harrison, and Electric Idol by Katee Robert.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

This is an impossible question! I have many! But I do think the climactic scene is so epic, and brutal, that I have to pick that one. It’s where this story started, after all.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

Not really. I’m a mom to two small children, so my writing time is extremely limited and I have to be very flexible. I wake up early and consider those two hours before the kids rise to be sacred writing time.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Be gentle with yourself.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

The astronomical pull between Tarset and Atum, and how inevitable they feel as a couple, despite the obstacles they still face. Also, the rich ancient Egyptian setting.
