The following post contains SPOILERS for Lightyear. If you can figure out a way to explain the ending of a movie without spoiling it, please let us know. We would love to hear it.Just because Lightyear is a Pixar movie, doesn’t mean it’s exclusively a movie for kids. (Let’s be honest: A lot of Pixar movies are as much or more for adults than for children.) In fact, Lightyear centers around a surprisingly serious and realistic depiction of time travel and time dilation, which happens each time the film’s Buzz Lightyear tests out his spaceship’s engine in an attempt to get himself and his…

A higher price point on one of the world’s most popular VR headsets also creates another potential barrier in Meta’s quest to get more consumers into virtual reality.Starting…

Credit: Becky Matsubara, Macaulay Library, Cornell Lab of Ornithology A new study helps reveal why tropical mountain birds occupy such narrow elevation ranges, a mystery that has puzzled scientists for centuries. While many assumed temperature was responsible for these limited distributions, the latest research suggests competition from other species plays a bigger role in shaping bird ranges. The study, conducted by researchers at the University of British Columbia and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, incorporated 4.4 million citizen science observations of 2,879 bird species around the world. The findings were published in Science on July 21. “You have…
Photography courtesy of Getty Images If anyone could do it… By Natalie Michie Date July 20, 2022 Robert Pattinson is not trying to be a fashion figure (emphasis on trying). And yet his outfit choices continue to make headlines, whether it’s the oversized suits he wore to promote The Batman or when he paired leather and red velvet to the 2005 premiere of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The teen hearthrob turned aloof A-list actor doesn’t appear to care too much about what he wears, hence why his choice to wear cargo shorts on a recent outing comes as no…

He would emerge from his back door wearing the full get-up and fumigate the hive before examining the interior for honey. We live in London, so barely knew him,…

Jet A-1, a straw-colored, kerosene-based fuel used in most big airplanes, is a difficult substance to replace. It’s packed with energy; per unit of weight, at least 60 times as much as the lithium-ion batteries used to propel electric cars. It’s also terrible for the climate. So as the aviation industry has gradually climbed aboard global pledges to get rid of carbon emissions, it has mostly promised to make up for its damage elsewhere—through offsets that might involve planting trees, restoring wetlands, or paying people to preserve ecosystems that otherwise would have been razed. But according to a growing body…
Even the uber-rich aren’t immune to the toll that political party lines can take on relationships: John Legend has admitted that his friendship with his formerly-frequent collaborator, Kanye West, dwindled largely due to the latter’s support of Donald Trump. The “All of Me” singer spoke about the fallout on a new episode of The Axe Files podcast: “[Kanye and I] aren’t friends as much as we used to be,” Legend told host David Axelrod. “I honestly think because we publicly disagreed on his running for office, his supporting Trump, I think it became too much for us to sustain our friendship, honestly.”…

The loss of the male sex chromosome as many men age causes the heart muscle to scar and can lead to deadly heart failure, new research from the University of Virginia School of Medicine shows. The finding may help explain why men die, on average, several years younger than women. UVA researcher Kenneth Walsh, PhD, says the new discovery suggests that men who suffer Y chromosome loss — estimated to include 40% of 70-year-olds — may particularly benefit from an existing drug that targets dangerous tissue scarring. The drug, he suspects, may help counteract the harmful effects of the chromosome…
