Writing duo Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings, known under the name Christina Lauren are a contemporary romance powerhouse. They are the minds behind some of the most engaging books such as The Unhoneymooners, Roomies and The Soulmate Equation. Their books are often love stories, and they vary from tales about enemies that become lovers, to friends that realize there is more between them than they thought. In the recently released The True Love Experiment, we follow the story of a romance writer and filmmaker from completely different walks of life, with no interest in finding love, who find out they…
Joe Leaphorn isn’t making much headway yet on solving the car-bomb murder of Emerson Charley, is he? Instead, finding the belt buckle J.J. was wearing when he died near where Tomas Charley supposedly left B.J. Vines’ lockbox sent Joe further down the rabbit hole on Dark Winds Season 2 Episode 2. First, the good news: Jim Chee survived being shot in the shoulder on Dark Winds Season 2 Episode 1. He also managed to survive being dragged back to civilization by Joe. Barely. Joe almost didn’t make it himself. He threw himself in front of a semi cab to make the…
An international research team from Queen Mary University of London, UK and the Rovereto Civic Museum Foundation, Italy has made a groundbreaking discovery regarding reptiles and their ability to match visual and auditory information. Their study published in Biology Letters from Royal Society showed that reptiles demonstrate spontaneous associations between two different sensory modalities: vision and hearing. Tortoises associated low sounds with large shapes and high pitch sounds with small shapes, even if they had not been trained to do so. These results show how brains are prepared to predict visuo-acoustic correspondences that are likely to occur in the natural…
Take it from Frances Mayes: everything really is better under the Tuscan sun—from the crisp vino to heaping plates of fresh pasta and ancient palazzos. I had the privilege of navigating Italy’s famed countryside in a 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale, winding through vineyards and olive groves, and past charming villas tucked into lush hillsides. If you need a reset from, well, life, Tuscany is without a doubt the place to do it. The beloved region is world renowned for its relaxed vibes, red wines, Roman bath houses, and Renaissance cities like Florence and Lucca. Grab a glass of wine, and…
For companies playing with virtual reality as disparate as plane-maker Boeing and online-gaming platform Roblox, forays into the so-called “metaverse” have come with equal parts promise and peril. The U.S. aviation giant is looking to digital technology to accelerate production of new aircraft, said Susan Doniz, Boeing’s chief information officer, at the Reuters Momentum conference in Austin on Tuesday. She cited how Boeing cut the development time of the T-7 trainer jet by 80 percent to three years as an example of what might be possible for commercial airplanes.Still, Doniz declined to offer a target date for when Boeing will design…
Surely you didn’t think The 1975 singer Matty Healy wouldn’t address the band’s recent controversial set in Malaysia during their first gig back since that international incident? After all, it was Healy’s broadside against the country’s anti-LGBTQ laws — not to mention an onstage same-sex kiss with bassist Ross MacDonald — that got the group’s set cut short and led to the cancellation of the Good Vibes festival and Healy’s claim that his group is now banned from Kuala Lumpur. Well, Healy took the matter head-on, kind of, during a typically raucous, unpredictable headlining slot at Lollapalooza in Chicago on…

Hope springs eternal, even if not everyone is on board. When Calls the Heart Season 10 Episode 2 found Elizabeth and Lucas on the same page, Rosemary helping Lee score an essential contract, Bill’s miraculous springs-related recovery, and the thought that tourism may be Hope Valley’s salvation. Let’s dig in! The springs are working miracles whether someone takes a dip or not. They’ve proven to be medicinally valuable, but even better, they provide a reason for the community to gather and share what’s most important to them — supporting one another and enjoying each other’s company. That was something that…
In the midst of an already record-breaking heat wave, Phoenix, Ariz., set a particularly eye-popping record: the temperature only dropped to 97 degrees Fahrenheit overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, setting an all-time record high for a nighttime low. When temperatures stay high overnight, they place a particularly heavy burden on the body, raising the risk of heat illness and death. The U.S.—and the world—has seen a spate of extreme heat so far this year, including the planet’s hottest-ever June and hottest week on record during the first week of July. Rising global temperatures from burning fossil fuels are the main…

Ben Goertzel, a well-known AI researcher and the CEO of SingularityNET, leads an effort to apply advances in machine learning to the software inside Hanson’s robots that allows them to respond to human speech. The AI behind Sophia can sometimes provide passable responses, but the technology isn’t nearly as advanced as a system like GPT-4, which powers the most advanced version of ChatGPT and cost more than $100 million to create. And of course even ChatGPT and other cutting-edge AI programs cannot sensibly answer…

Kuwait’s censors have banned Australian horror hit Talk to Me over its inclusion of star Zoe Terakes because they identify as transmasculine and nonbinary. While it is not unusual for Kuwait to bar media featuring LGBTQ+ themes and references, this marks the first time a film has been singled out for one actor’s gender identity. More alarming is that this is never actually addressed or even referenced in the movie. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news over the weekend. Terakes put out their own statement on the matter, saying, ”This isn’t the first film Kuwait has banned. If there…
Here were the simple instructions given by a Harvard University assistant professor to people participating in a recent cognitive science study: “Imagine the following scene. Visualize it in your mind’s eye, as vividly as you can: a person walks into a room and knocks a ball off a table.” The professor, Tomer Ullman, then asked those in the study about nine properties of their mental images, including the color and size of the ball, the shape and size of the table, and the person’s hair color and height. If you are anything like the people in the study, you only…

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] Hallmark fans will likely think of When Calls the Heart first when it comes to Erin Krakow (its star and an executive producer), but she’s also all over the network’s movies, both rom-coms and Christmas. When TV Insider caught up with Krakow in April about her latest Hallmark Channel film, The Wedding Cottage, we also took the opportunity to have her reminisce on some of her past work — including the first season of the long-running drama. “I feel like I’m really living it out with every project that [Hallmark]…
Credit: Amelie Funk In Africa, climate change impacts are experienced as extreme events like drought and floods. Through the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (which leverages expertise from USG science agencies, universities, and the private sector) and the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Center, it has been possible to predict and monitor these climatic events, providing early warning of their impacts on agriculture to support humanitarian and resilience programming in the most food insecure countries of the world. Science is beginning to catch up with and even get ahead of climate change. In a commentary for the journal Earth’s Future,…
There’s a special shade of green—somewhere in between a yellowy chartreuse and a loud neon—that hits the trees in Philadelphia each spring and summer. I had never noticed it before, this green that enthusiastically and bossily announces that it is green, but then again, I had never noticed a lot of things before this year, when I first began wandering into the woods. As soon as the new leaves started to sprout in April, a break from the browns and grays of winter, I could feel myself channeling my former ecotherapist, Lauren Kahn, while staring out into the forested distance.…
Previously, scientists reckoned that Greenland iced over some 2.5 million years ago, and has been that way since. In 2021, Bierman and his colleagues determined that it was actually ice-free sometime in the past million years. Now, they’ve dated the tundra ecosystem captured in the Camp Century core to a mere 416,000 years ago—so northwestern Greenland couldn’t have been locked in ice then.Scientists also know that at that time, global temperatures were similar or slightly warmer than what they are today. However, back then, atmospheric concentrations of planet-warming carbon dioxide were about 280 parts per million, compared to today’s 422…

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] With The Witcher Season 3 Volume 2 now out, fans know how Henry Cavill‘s last appearance as Geralt of Rivia was staged. In the video above, we’re looking back at the full season with The Witcher stars as they shared their favorite sets and filming locations for the Netflix fantasy series’ third installment. For MyAnna Buring (who plays Tissaia), the answer was simple. “Aretuza sets are always my favorite, always,” she declared. “I mean, they’re usually where I hang out. But I have to say, in this season, oh boy,…
At my county coroner’s office, I regularly review cases of murdered women. They are victims of domestic violence, overwhelmingly ones shot to death by ex-husbands, ex-boyfriends or other men they knew. The Supreme Court is now poised to decide whether to put guns more easily into the hands of these abusers-turned-murderers, which would enshrine domestic violence as a warped historical privilege of the U.S. Constitution. Or the Court can make the lifesaving and legally sound decision and protect people such as the murder victims—mothers, daughters and children—I see in those case files. In February a federal circuit court in Texas…

On July 20, Adam Sandler was unexpectedly spotted playing a casual game of pickup basketball with Timothée Chalamet. He paired his basketball shorts with a gray T-shirt that, although very sweaty, clearly stated, “Let me ask my wife” in…
