The ride is over for “Ride or Die”: Prime Video has canceled the action comedy starring Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer after one season, Deadline reports. (TVLine has reached out to Prime Video for confirmation.) Paramount Television Studios are reportedly shopping the series to other networks, however.
Waddingham and Spencer starred as best friends Judith Burton and Debbie Claybourne, “who thought they knew everything about each other — except Judith turns out to be an international assassin,” per the official logline. “When a mysterious figure emerges from Judith’s past and a hit goes horribly wrong, both of their worlds are turned upside down as they’re forced to go on the run together. It’s a race against time and a road trip across Europe, with law enforcement, highly trained assassins and some very dangerous criminals at their heels.”
The cancellation comes as a bit of a surprise, since “Ride or Die” was popular enough to make several appearances on the Nielsen streaming charts, logging five straight weeks among the Top 10 Originals across all streaming services, including pulling in 506 million minutes of viewing time during the week of August 3–9 to rank #5.

“Ride or Die” made its debut on Prime Video on July 15, with all eight episodes dropping at once. Along with stars Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer, the cast included Ed Skrein (“Game of Thrones”) as Billy, Calam Lynch (“Miss Austen”) as Sam, Savannah Steyn (“Intergalactic”) as Queenie, Jamie Parker (“The Crown”) as David, Jacky Ido (“The Catch”) as Jacques, Sylvia Hoeks (“See”) as Ana, and Bill Nighy (“Lazarus”) as The Director.
“Ride or Die” hailed from series creator Tessa Coates, showrunner Matt Miller, and director Peyton Reed, all of whom executive-produced alongside Spencer and Waddingham, Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, Irene Yeung, Brian Clisham, and Stephanie Kluft.
The series did give Waddingham — best known for her Emmy-winning role as club owner Rebecca Welton on Apple TV’s “Ted Lasso” — a chance to prove she has action hero chops, and we even added it to our list of Waddingham’s 5 best TV shows that aren’t “Ted Lasso.”
